During the show, I spotted my friend and rapper @KoshaDillz and we were able to discuss the performance we were watching. To be honest, I hate to talk bad but I wasn’t impressed with The Wyld at all. This is a band I’ve been following since fall 2010 when they came onto the scene with “Revolution” and followed that up with “Full Circle” nearly a month later in late 2010. I became a huge fan and thought they had a ton of potential as they had this Kid Cudi with a Cage The Elephant vibe. They didn’t release anything for a while until fall 2013 with the release of Abstract EP, which really disappointed me as there was only 1 song from it, I’ve since continued to enjoy, “Wake Up” plus their new edit of “Revolution”.

Show & Album Review: Basic Vacation at It’s A School Night & their debut EP

IMG 3627 600x450 Show & Album Review: Basic Vacation at Its A School Night & their debut EPA week and a half ago I saw emerging electronic pop/rock act Basic Vacation. Based on what I heard in their 5-track debut EP and their intimate performance at Bardot for the KCRW curated It’s a School Night, they will become a huge mainstream act in the realm of Imagine Dragons mixed with Fun. I repeat, this group will become a huge mainstream act!

I actually dug almost everything they performed including their hit, “I Believe”, “It’s All Happening” (probably their next single), “You’re In My Head” and “Worlds Collide”. These 4 tracks are on their 5 track EP which I highly recommend listening to below. Their live set was fun alternative pop rock with many people singing the oohs and other words that are easy to sing along to. I also enjoyed when Basic Vacation covered “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” by Tears For Fears, thanks @JakeCraney for the reminder of that classic gem getting cover treatment.

Actually Bardot didn’t do this band justice, they deserve to play in front of way larger crowds and I feel very lucky to get to see them free on a Monday night in Hollywood at a venue that holds no more than 200 people. Stream the Basic Vacation EP (iTunes) below and watch their video for “I Believe”.

I highly recommend attending It’s A School Night, it was my first time there and I had a nice time getting to see a band that wouldn’t normally be free to see. They usually curate shows getting artists before they blow up, I wish I had KCRW’s resources to do something like that.

Anyways, I don’t remember a ton of what he spun, but when he performed 2009 Duck Sauce hit “Anyway” and the latest Duck Sauce single, 2013′s “It’s You”. Oh and also his 1996 classic, “The Funk Phenomena”; watch music video’s for those three songs below.

The Dean’s List – “Hollywood” (featuring Dani Ummel)

March 13th, 2012 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Finally a new track from The Dean’s List. We  have been promoting their music for quite a while and though “Hollywood” is not their best track they have ever produced, it is still awesome! It’s off their upcoming project Generation X which is sure to be quite impressive. They have been widely successful off of only two mixtapes. Now this is their chance to take their talents to the next level and I know they will succeed. Generation X is due to drop on April 3rd. In the meantime, enjoy!
