Preview: Downtown Long Beach New Year Eve’s Bash feat. Saint Motel, ZZ Ward, Houndmouth and more!

December 26th, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review |
We’re pleased to let you know about the Downtown Long Beach New Year’s Eve block party! Headlining this year will be Saint Motel, ZZ Ward, Houndmouth, and Vintage Trouble, each bringing guests to perform throughout the evening. Those guests include a special DJ set from OK Go’s Dan Konopka and Tim Nordwind’s project Xia Xia TechniqueFMLYBND, Miles Tackett & The 3 Times, and DJ Sovern-T.

Following last year’s record-breaking New Year’s Eve (NYE) celebration, when 13,500 people descended upon DTLB to ring in the new year, the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA) will continue to host the largest party in town as it welcomes a plethora of SoCal’s finest musicians to take part in a three-stage, three-block festival in the heart of Downtown. DLBA has again teamed with the Knitting Factory Entertainment, partner and talent booker for New Year’s Eve, to establish an exciting line-up for the night.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing Saint Motel and Houndmouth, two bands we’ve covered for a long time who only put out great fun tunes. Pre-sale tickets are available for $30 at www.downtownlongbeach.org or by clicking here. Tickets will be available at the gate on the day of the event for $40. It’s well worth the money as this should be a great place to party for New Year’s!

Review: Houndmouth live at The Mint *alt folk up and comers

October 13th, 2013 by | Concert/Festival Review, Music Video, Rock |

Last Wednesday, my brother and I caught Indiana folk rock band Houndmouth at The Mint in West Los Angeles. The Mint invited us out and knew I would love the harmonized vocals and positive energy that Houndmouth displayed throughout the set.

Although at times it felt like I heard songs more than once because some of their tunes sound similar, overall I felt encouraged to sing along to many of their tunes because the whole band was singing, which I loved. A quality show on a weeknight, if you happen to see Houndmouth on a lineup at an event, I highly recommend checking them out, especially if you dig folk music. As someone whose never been too much into folk, Houndmouth is one of my few exceptions as they have an upbeat vibe or at least understand that if everybody in the band sings along, their audience will be encouraged and enjoy to sing along with them, it’s fun.

Watch videos to “Penitentiary” and the single off their debut album, From The Hills Below The City (iTunes), “On The Road”.
