Star Slinger – Rogue Cho Pa (EP)

May 29th, 2011 by | Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, Remix |

Star Slinger, a producer/DJ out of the UK, makes a new breed of hip-hop/electronic/dance jams. His music is super funky, full of tons of layers and nuances, and uses samples in ways no one else is. His music will get you dancing, his music will get your head nodding, and his music is definitely a must listen.

He recently dropped the Rogue Cho Pa EP, which is apparently full of stuff Star Slinger had “left lying around.” If the stuff that he has lying around is this awesome, I can’t wait to hear what else he has. The 6 song EP takes you on a journey through chilled out, down-tempo stuff, to more upbeat dance-party jams. The tracks are instrumental for the post part, with samples thrown in, but the songs are so interesting that they don’t feel like instrumentals.

Follow Star Slinger on Twitter and Facebook, and head over to his soundcloud where he has tons of other instrumentals and sick remixes available for free download.

Sourface – Social Therapy Vol. 2 (Mixtape)

May 12th, 2011 by | Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap |

A lot of people who listen to hip-hop keep telling me that most people don’t focus on the beats enough. After listening to Sourface’s brand of instrumental hip-hop, I completely agree. Sourface’s Social Therapy Vol 2 mixtape is basically a beat tape, but I found it actually more compelling then a good amount of the rappers in the game today. Sourface is based out of the UK, but his beats are soulful, conscious, and dare I say, reminescent of everyone’s favorite producer, 9th Wonder. It’s crazy, I’ve never enjoyed instrumentals as much as I have with Sourface. Check out his take on Jay Z’s classic track “Song Cry.” He takes it in a completely different direction, turning it into a soulful classic.

Bibio, instrumentally awesome

November 30th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie |

Bibio, who I learned about from the comments in this post, produces some good music. The British music producer has some interesting music that you won’t hear on the radio but are enjoyable nonetheless.

Here are a couple of my favorites.

Sneak Peak: Chiddy Bang – “My Ways”

Above is the music video for a Chiddy Freestyle but the big news is a new Chiddy Bang track, “My Ways” (unconfirmed title). Credit Philly Chiddy for leaking this track, which will be on their debut album, The Swelly Life, dropping September 13. The quality is not the best as the recording is from when Chiddy Bang performed this on KIIS FM in Cleveland recently.

In the song, Xaphoon Jones samples Dr. Dog’s “All My Ways”. Listen to and download “My Ways” and also Xaphoon Jones’ original version to “Under The Sheets” (Instrumental), which didn’t make it on the Air Swell mixtape because Chiddy liked the other remix more, but it’s still a good to listen to because of Xaphoon Jones producing skills.  Chiddy Bang – My Ways (unconfirmed title) (Dr. Dog sample) by phillychiddy  Under The Sheets (Chiddy Bang Remix V2) (Instrumental) by phillychiddy
