September 13th, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Hip-Hop/Rap |

Peter Rosenberg & Popchips Present: What’s Poppin Vol. 1. Pretty cool sponsorship from popchips which are increasingly rising into my top 5 favorite chips after Funyuns, Doritos and any guacomole chips. Anyways, this hip-hop mixtape is filled with some relaxed hip-hop jams. Here’s my three favorites off the mixtape. Download mixtape.

Asher Roth – Goodbye

StS – Ahhh Yeah

J. Cole ft. SD & Childish Gambino – Who Datt Pt. 2 (Prod. by J. Cole)

J. Cole teams up with Trey Songz to create a chill new track. It’s called “Can’t Get Enough” and J. Cole’s rapping does not disappoint, having awesome rapping and lyricism and Trey Songz vocals are solid as well. All in all, a pretty legit hip-hop track. Enjoy!

Wale update *5 new songs!

July 24th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Wale has been making lots of new music in the past couple months. Love how most of Wale‘s latest songs have been upbeat and/or the rapping is off the hook! Even though Wale is working under my least favorite rapper in Rick Ross, I still think Wale can still have that quality sound he showed in his mixtapes and his debut album.

Here’s five songs that we haven’t blogged about yet that you hopefully haven’t heard yet. Wale‘s upcoming album, Ambition, drops November 1st through Warner Bros. Records.

Wale – Globetrotter ft. 2 Chainz

Wale – Bad Girls Club ft. J. Cole

Trae Tha Truth – I’m On ft. Lupe Fiasco, Big Boi, Wale, Wiz Khalifa & MDMA (5-star!)

Wale – Bait ft. TCB

Wale – Lacefrontin (one of my favorite new Wale songs)

J. Cole update *5 new songs!

June 17th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

It’s been too long since we blogged about J. Cole, especially considering all this music of his has been dropping left and right. He seriously is going to blow up as he has this raw swagger in his flow and you can feel the lyrics. Once his untitled debut album drops, still TBA, I see his popularity soaring.  So here’s five of J. Cole’s latest songs that I especially enjoy.
Work Out (confirmed single off debut album, MUST-DOWNLOAD)
Lost Ones
Return of Simba
Disgusting (prod. by J. Cole) (dope beat, silly lyrics, Kanye West?)

Dope features *Donnis, Mickey Factz, XV, Chris Brown, J.Cole

June 10th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

You know when you hear those songs where you wish a specific type of artist was on the track and that would make it better. Well here’s 3 songs with dope ass featured artists.

First let’s go with UK hip-hop musician Chipmunk‘s latest song, “Champion” with Chris Brown on the hook and J.Cole delivering a dope rhymes. It’s a solid song that’s worth listening to.

Next we got Celeb Forever who got Donnis and XV on “I Don’t Believe You”. It’s got a sick beat, rapping is dope and an interesting hook. Overall an interesting song.

When I heard Mickey Factz stepped on the awesome production of “Beautiful People” by Chris Brown, I was super excited. Nothing against Chris Brown, but I wanted a little rap on “Beautiful People” and Factz delivers!

A fan of J. Cole and ESPN’s Baseball Tonight? Well then you’ll love the remix he did to their theme song. While hanging out at the ESPN Baseball Tonight studios, he mixed up the song quite a bit, adding lots of swag to it. This is definitely a video worth checking out. Enjoy!

This dropped a couple days back, it’s the latest music video for Kendrick Lamar for a song off his first studio album, Section80. The song is produced by J. Cole and really is a chill track with some interesting visuals and top notch lyricism.

Listen and download “HiiPower”. Music video after the jump.

StartYourOwnRebellion – “Let It Go” (featuring J. Cole)

April 25th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Ever hear of the group StartYourOwnRebellion? Yeah me neither. That’s until I heard this track of their “Let It Go” which features the renowned J. Cole. The group of four members and J. Cole both have solid verses with J. Cole killing it as usual. This SYOR hip-hop quartet is pretty good and I hope to hear more tracks of theirs in the near future. Enjoy!

XV – “Watch Me Go” (Prod. J Cole)

New Vizzy!

XV was gracious enough to provide us with a new track, even though he just released, Zero Heroes last week. He decided to put out this track because of his loyal fan base and reaching 25,000 followers on Twitter. Once again Vizzy is sensational and J Cole does a great job on the boards. Enjoy!

XV – SmallVille X H.A.M. (freestyle)

January 28th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

The kid with the green backpack, XV, recently dropped a song produced by J. Cole which samples Smashing Pumpkins. “SmallVille” has a nice relaxing beat to it and the sample only makes it better. Great production, great lyricism, great song.

Next XV song is “H.A.M.” and is the hit single from the Jay-Z/Kanye West collaboration off their upcoming album, Watch The Throne, coming out summer 2011. XV handles the track nicely and of all up-and-coming rappers to take on a big song, XV has the skills to do it well.
