Hidden Gem: Dunson *hip-hop/R&B artist w/John Legend’s approval!

April 22nd, 2012 by | Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B |

Dunson (formerly known as Kenton Dunson) has a lot of talent, and we were shocked to get an email stating that he hopped on John Legend‘s remix to “Tonight (Best You Ever Had)”. We also rewinded back a bit and listen to Dunson‘s track “Count On It” which was also a killer. His flow and beats are something you can’y escape, and he has a HUGE future ahead of him. Dunson is currently working on his highly anticipated mixtape, The Investment, which is scheduled to drop this summer. John Legend will also make an appearance on The Investment.

Guide to Big Sean’s Finally Famous album

June 27th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Mashup, Remix |

Tomorrow Big Sean‘s debut album, Finally Famous, finally drops. I got a sneak peak of the whole album and after listening to each of the songs a few times, I can honestly say this might be one of the best hip-hop debut album of 2011 and the best G.O.O.D. Music album release of the year.

The album is loaded with features with Lupe Fiasco, Chiddy, Wiz Khalifa, The Dream, Kanye West, and John Legend appearing on tracks. Here’s my five favorites from Finally Famous that you haven’t heard on many other blogs yet.
Big Sean – Dance (A$$)
Big Sean – Memories Pt 2 ft John Legend
Big Sean – High ft Wiz Khalifa & Chiddy
Big Sean – Livin This Life ft The Dream
Big Sean – Celebrity ft Dwele

Also to prepare you for Big Sean‘s major label debut album, here’s a mashup, a dubstep remix and a track that got left off Finally Famous.
The Hood Internet – Last Knuckle (Big Sean x Man Man)
Big Sean & Chiddy Bang-Too Fake (Captured By Kings Dubstep Remix)
Big Sean – Home
Finally Famous tracklisting plus latest Big Sean music video after the jump. (more…)

Covers *Aloe Blacc, Bad Rabbits, Collin McLoughlin, John Legend, Adele

May 8th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Pop, R&B, Remix, Rock |

I have been pushing this back and continually forgetting about doing a covers post. Well know I got too many covers to post, so here’s five that have come out within the last few months worth listening to. Above is a picture of Bad Rabbits who recently embarked on a “Cover Sessions” feature. Below is the third cover in their series.

Aloe Blacc decided to do a cover/mashup with my favorite Jay-Z song, “99 Problems” with Kanye West‘s “Can’t Tell Me Nothing”. Aloe Blacc is hands-down one of the best up-and-coming R&B/soul artists and I love his vocals in this, giving the song a retro soul feel. It’s ironic because each of these originals sample retro funk/soul material.
Aloe Blacc – 99 Problems x Can’t Tell Me Nothing
Next my favorite genre-blending funk, pop, R&B, rock band, Bad Rabbits, cover one of Smashing Pumpkins greatest songs and one of those songs I hate to hear on a Sunday because it reminds me of a new work week, much like any Bush song. Loving the instrumentals, vocals are better than I expected, personally I enjoy the cover more than the original.
Bad Rabbits – 1979
For some reason Collin McLoughlin is putting out more remixes/covers than originals which is cool but I want to see more originality before declaring me being a bigger fan of him than say Mike Posner. Here Collin cover’s Odd Future crooner Frank Ocean‘s “Nature Feels” which samples MGMT’s “Electric Feel”. When your doing a song over MGMT instrumentals, there’s a real good chance the song is going to be fantastic.
Collin McLoughlin – Nature Feels
Probably have all heard this but if you haven’t downloaded this yet, here’s John Legend‘s cover of Adele‘s “Rolling In The Deep”. Love how John Legend uses hardly anything to support his powerful vocals.
John Legend – Rolling In The Deep
And on that note, let’s finish today’s covers with Adele‘s cover of The Strokes first mainstream hit, “Last Nite”. I still prefer the original, but this is still really good as Adele is one of the most under-appreciated musicians out there.
Adele – Last Nite

Kanye West- “Home” *The Original Homecoming (Unreleased)

December 29th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

We all known about Kanye West’s – “Homecoming” off his album, Graduation, but did you know that there was an earlier version of it which was never released? Well hear it is. It’s called “Home” and it features John Legend on the hook. Thanks to P&P for bringing this track to my attention. Enjoy the track and download it if you please!

MSTRKRFT ft. John Legend-Heartbreaker (12th Planet remix)

December 16th, 2010 by | Dance, Remix |

12th Planet remixes Mstrkrkft’s “Heartbreaker” which features John Legend. This is a chill remix with some cool additions in the instrumentals by 12th Planet and not really messing with the vocals which is a good thing since it’s John Legend vocals.

Lupe Fiasco ft. John Legend – Never Forget You

November 17th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B |

Relaxed chill song by Lupe Fiasco and gets John Legend’s incredible vocals on it makes for a great track. Lupe never lets me down and whenever you get John Legend featured on a song, you know it’s going to be good.

Never Forget You ft. John Legend

Rumored that this song will be off Lasers and be Lupe’s next single after “Show Goes On“. Lasers scheduled to drop March 8, 2011.

Kanye West – Gorgeous x Blame Game

November 10th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B |

We already posted “Gorgeous” earlier this week, but here’s the CD quality version with no tags.

Gorgeous (Ft. Kid Kudi & Raekwon)

Also here’s Blame Game featuring John Legend. It’s got some tags, is 7 minutes long and has some weird Chris Rock sound bits in it but overall a nice relaxing track.

After the jump, check out the tracklist for Kanye West’s upcoming album, My Dark Twisted Fantasy and another album cover for it. (more…)

Magnetic Man – “Getting Nowhere” ft. John Legend

October 6th, 2010 by | Dance, Dubstep, R&B |

Magnetic Man is a live electronic music project consisting of dubstep producers and DJs Skream, Benga and Artwork. They signed to Columbia Records in February 2010 and the first single on the label, “I Need Air”, was released in July.

The reason why I found Magnetic Man is because they featured John Legend on their track “Getting Nowhere”. The song has John Legend’s incredible vocals going some awesome yet subtle dubstep that doesn’t overpower John Legend’s vocals. A must download!  Magnetic Man ft. Hidden Gem: Ollie Gabriel

September 21st, 2010 by | Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B |

Ollie Gabriel is a R&B;/hip-hop/pop artist based in Los Angeles. Here’s a synopsis from FNT:

Whatever he puts his mind to, he always accomplishes. Partner of Satellite Music Group (SMG), Ollie Gabriel, has lived by these words his entire life. If he didn’t then he may never have walked away from a major record deal that was not providing him with the creative control and respect he wanted as an artist and producer. Starting again from scratch, Ollie kept pushing forward with his goals and dreams and found a creative match and business partner in Ryan Pate, a producer, and professional engineer from VA. The two realized that “everytime [they] got together to co-produce it came out hot” and they decided to capitalize on that energy. They continued to build a catalog of records in every genre and formed Satellite Music Group. Headquarterd on the legendary Sunset Strip, they have been working tirelessly on the release of Ollie’s debut album. As writer and producers Grammy winning Artist such as John Legend have recently recorded their songs for placement on upcoming projects. The talented pair are now in talks with the likes of Universal, Def Jam, Atlantic Records, etc and have had a great response to their songs. Ollie Gabriel & Satellite Music Group are taking the music industry by storm!

Listen and download Ollie’s best song to date, “Red Light District”, which has a club hip-hop feel that you can party to and I envision being on the radio once this guy gets a record deal.  Red Light District by CrossCoastLA
Here are snippet’s of two songs that I look forward to hearing more of from Ollie Gabriel.  Happier Without You (TEASER) by CrossCoastLA  Bedroom Champion (TEASER) by CrossCoastLA
