Colin Munroe – Your Eyes ft. K.Flay *alt pop/hip-hop

June 1st, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Pop |

This song came out last week and somehow it slipped through our cracks. It’s an interesting slowed-down alt pop track with heavy Colin Munroe vocals, interesting production and some hip-hop flavor from K.Flay. Stream and DOWNLOAD “Your Eyes”.

These two are performing tonight at The Central SAPC in Santa Monica. I’ll be there and if you want to go, buy tickets here.  K.Flay tour dates / Colin Munroe tour dates

k.flay, Lesands, The Chain Gang of 1974 and Tic Tic Boom! at The Echo

November 22nd, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Electronic Rock, Hip-Hop/Rap |

Last night at The Echo in Silverlake, I saw a slew of awesome musicians. K.Flay, Lesands, The Chain Gang of 1974 and Tic Tic Boom! all rocked the place with style. The show was special in the fact that it consisted of artists and groups on a wide range of genres and not one specific type of music and it was Chain Gang’s last night of their residency at The Echo.

It varied from a female rapper with great electronic beats, indie and alternative rock, and more. Even though it was on a Monday night and the crowd wasn’t as large as I expected, the show was still amazing. Enjoy my favorite tracks from the show below!

Kreayshawn – “Gucci Gucci” (K.Flay Remix)

June 5th, 2011 by | Dance, Dubstep, Hip-Hop/Rap, Remix |

My two favorite white female rappers are K.Flay and Kreayshawn. So when I saw on rcrdlbl that K.Flay remixed Kreayshawn‘s “Gucci Gucci“, adding some upbeat dubstep, I was super pumped! If you like the original, good chance you will really like this. If you didn’t like the original, then at least take a listen because it’s a pretty legit remix.

K. Flay – I Stopped Caring in ’96 (mixtape)

When I saw P&P posted new K. Flay I was ecstatic. I hadn’t heard anything new from the alternative hip-hop MC since December so I had a good feeling her latest project was going to be as dope and interesting as the last ones I enjoyed.

Here’s two of my favorites from I Stopped Caring in ’96 (download).
K. Flay – Doctor Don’t Know
K. Flay – PARTY
Below is the official music video to “Doctor Don’t Know”, which sounds as if Adele turned into a hip-hop head and did a hip-hop re-release on “Rolling In The Deep”. (more…)

Hidden Gem: k.flay

December 16th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap |

When’s the last time you heard of a white female rapper? Unless you consider Ke$ha, I don’t remember the last time there was a really good white female rapper. Well look no further than k.flay.

Born in Illinois, she moved out West and graduated from Stanford University. After graduating she continued her music career and has opened for artists such as 3OH!3, Asher Roth, Passion Pit and Zion I.

I first posted about her when her mixtape, MASHed Potatoes, dropped. Even though it came out in late 2009, I knew this girl had potential because she’s carving a small niche for herself. Below is her latest mixtape:

Recently she dropped a couple tracks which I have featured below.

So Fast, So Maybe

Fuck & Run

If you like the songs above, I recommend listening to her latest EP, K.Flay, here. For more k.flay, check out her facebook and twitter.

new mixtape! K. Flay – MASHed Potatoes

K. Flay’s latest mixtape is so dope! It’s FIRE!

Please download and support this indie rap artist who hails from Illinois, went to Stanford University, and currently lives in SF. She is going on the Campus Consciousness Tour in October with Passion Pit. Find more info about it on her homepage and like her on facebook if you like this mixtape.

Recently, K. Flay released MASHed Potatoes and I enjoy just about every song on it. My favorites are “CRAZYtown” for it’s lyrics, “ON the bridge” for it’s Chili Pepper sample, and “love in this CLUB MED” for its Usher sample and sweet lyrics.

I thought I posted this song on the blog before but here’s the reason why I like K. Flay.  2 Weak by K.Flay by JanMike415
