Review: The Ranch Party *epic music benefit party!

March 5th, 2013 by | Concert/Festival Review |

First of all, The Ranch Party was awesome even though most of what I remember was being stuck in over an hour of traffic to check-in, the school bus ride that took us to and from the festival and how many people were camping out was ridiculous! Overall I had a great time and below I will recap most of what I remember at The Ranch Party which includes reviews of The Record CompanyNeo Fresco, Terraplane SunMansions on the Moon, and Kisses. Guide to an epic live music benefit party, The Ranch

February 25th, 2013 by | Alternative/Indie, Daily Mix, Electronic Dance Music, Mixtape Monday, Pop, Remix, Rock |

The Ranch is an epic live music benefit party, nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains of Los Angeles. In the spirit of the music scenes that came together in LA’s canyons, The Ranch Party allows you to come camp out at the top of Mulholland Drive for a full day & night of LA bands, Artists, DJs, food and drinks. The one-day festival takes place Saturday, music starting at 2pm and goes through the whole night with many emerging acts we are big fans. I’m most looking forward to seeing The Internet (of OFWGKTA), Mansions On The Moon, the drummer from Miami Horror (Good Night Keaton), Tropicool and Zak Waters.

For more details on the event, RSVP on facebook and visit TheRanchParty.com. It’s the best value concert coming up in LA as you can enjoy over 20 musicians in an all-day and night event for as little as $40 ($50 if you decide you want to camp out).

Here’s a 10-track playlist of the songs I can’t wait to hear live at The Ranch.

The playlist above doesn’t even include the chill summer vibes I expect Tropicool to spin, the electro house from Bones, and the trap from Neo Fresco.

Last Friday night, we were blessed to see Electro-Pop group Mansions On The Moon (MOTM) absolutely dominate the stage at Dim Mak Records in Hollywood. It was an album release party for their Light Years EP which is amazing. Take a listen below:

Make sure to check them out every Monday this month at their residency at The Central SAPC. They put on a great act!

Soundcloud’s Best: September *DJ Burnout, Filip Filipi, Smokey Robotic, Ocelot, Aziz

September 30th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Dance, Dubstep, Hip-Hop/Rap, Mashup, Soundcloud's Best |

Once again the five best songs we received through soundcloud are a wide variety but sure to please the ears. Here’s Soundcloud’s Best for September.

First I wanted to highlight DJ Burnout‘s best mashup he released in September with “One More Hump” which uses Daft Punk‘s “One More Time” on instrumentals mixed with several bumping pop songs that bring the hump. Yikes that sounded kind of gross… get the bumping music on to bring the hump… “One More Hump”!

Next we go with newcomer Filip Filipi with “Big City Chaser” featuring Mansions On The Moon and Work Drugs. It’s got this electronic chill-hop sound, which is real interesting and caught my ear.

Now for a group that if you are not familiar with them yet, you should be as they have a superfuture sound that is slowly catching on. Here’s Smokey Robotic‘s latest, “No Reality”, which features Redman! Haven’t heard from Redman in a while so that’s a great addition to quite an interesting song.

Now for a remix whose original should be on the radio, “I Stand Alone” by Theophilus London. The chill-wave/dubstep remix from Ocelot has been officially approved by Theophilus and is a remix that grows on you even though it isn’t as catchy as the original.

Lastly comes another artist who has a fairly prominent feature on the blog, Aziz. The instrumental produced by No Studio is what caught my ear and the rapping from Aziz goes so well with this banging hip-hop anthem. My only question is, who the fuck is Clay Davis? Well I googled it and found out Clay Davis is a character from HBO’s The Wire and he was known for saying “sheeeeee-it,” which the song ends with. I enjoy the song a bit more now knowing that.

Mansions on the Moon – Darkness

June 20th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Dance |

Mansions on the Moon has only been around a little over a year, yet they are already getting major attention. Their debut mixtape Paradise Falls was co-signed by Pharrell and Diplo, and featured collaborations with huge names like Xaphoon Jones, Deadmau5, and Big Gigantic. I got a chance to see them open for Mac Miller and Wiz on the Green Carpet tour, and these dudes definitely held it down in front of a huge crowd that seemed not ready for their style of indie/hip-hop/electro. If you haven’t download Paradise Falls yet, get it below:

Download: Mansions on the Moon – Paradise Falls

The genre bending trio just dropped “Darkness,” the first single off their upcoming album Lightyears due out later this year. With the momentum they’ve built over their first year of existence as a band, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.

New Xaphoon Jones remix x new Chiddy Bang

October 28th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Remix |

First song is a Xaphoon Jones remix to a Mansions on the Moon track, “Glimpse of the Future”. Xaphoon Jones turns the song into a more futuristic jam.

Next song is off Chiddy Bang’s The Preview EP called “Neighborhood” featuring Killer Mike. I didn’t expect this song to be on the EP, but am glad it was put on the EP.
