PAZ – “Look at My Ghosts” x “Drake vs Big Sean” *2 banging new mashup/covers

January 30th, 2012 by | Mashup, Mashup Monday |

Here’s two mashup/cover’s that are new and fresh from PAZ. He recently dropped a mashup, singing “Look At Me Now” over some Deadmau5. The song is called “Look At My Ghosts”, is remixed by Drunk Panda. This is the 2nd single from Young Broke & Fameless II, set for release early 2012.

Next is another mashup that PAZ did, mashing Drake‘s “I’m On One” vs Big Sean‘s “My Last”. This is an acoustic mashup with a real chill vibe anybody could like.

Relax under the covers – The Kickdrums, Mike Posner, PJ Simas & Yeasayer

February 27th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Rock |

Above is a mashup/cover by produced by PJ Simas and performed by him on the instrumentals and rapping and Jorden Corey with the vocals. In the song they specifically focus on Skylar Grey’s part from “Coming Home” by Diddy Dirty Money and her feature in “I Need A Doctor” by Dr. Dre and Eminem. Download “Coming Home x I Need A Doctor” (cover).

Below are three other really good songs that are covers.

First is The Kickdrum’s cover of Nirvana’s song “Love Buzz”, big fan of the instrumentals and the vocals go along really well.
The Kickdrums – Love Buzz (Nirvana Cover)
Recently Mike Posner did a cover of Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep”. Before you dismiss Posner for what turned out to be a flop of a debut album save for a few pop hits, Posner returns to his awesome production roots for a relaxed pop cover.

Lastly Yeasayer covers Seal’s “Crazy”. Seal is a great artist and while I don’t think the Yeasayer cover is better than the original, it provides a alternative/folk perspective of one of the best Seal songs.

Daily Mash – Sam Tsui, next youtube sensation?

November 2nd, 2010 by | Mashup, Pop, Remix |

[youtube HkHJ2-zoSB4]

With over 4.5 million views, I wish I could have been one of the first couple millions but that’s ok, as long as most of you haven’t seen it yet.

Sam Tsui is really good, taking three overplayed songs, (Eminem/Rihanna’s “Love The Way You Lie”, Taio Cruz’ “Dynamite”, and Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”), and turning it into his own.

Cover/Mashups have become a cool trend with television show, GleeNeon Hitch, Sam Tsui and many more.

PJ Simas – Bruno Mars Medley

October 19th, 2010 by | Mashup, Pop, Remix |

PJ Simas & Cato Webb cover and mashup up three songs off of Bruno Mars’ “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” which are “Grenade,” “Liquor Store Blues,” and “The Lazy Song.” He does a great job on mixing these together and creating a solid flow. This is the 5th song released off of PJ’s Back 2 School Remix series.

Holiday Parade “Slam Krunk”

October 5th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Mashup, Pop, Remix, Rock |

“Slam Crunk” by Holiday Parade is probably my favorite song that not only does a really good cover but does a good cover of several hip-hop songs making it a mashup/cover. However they turn the hip-hop into a pop/rock kind of feel.  Slam Crunk – Holiday Parade

If you liked the above song, take a listen to pop/rock group Holiday Parade in one of their latest hits, “Never Enough”.

Mashup Monday: Mr. Rogers Productions x Weezer

September 13th, 2010 by | Mashup, Mashup Monday, Remix |

As you can see in the video above, this isn’t a mashup between Mr. Rogers Productions and Weezer. Weezer does a cover/mashup with MGMT’s “Kids” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”. It’s an awesome cover/mashup and I love that Weezer performs this song at almost every live concert which I have featured video of them doing above.

Download: Weezer – Kids x Poker Face

The other mashup today is by Mr. Rogers Production, who recently produced “Testify To The Kids” a mashup between MGMT’s “Kids” and Kanye West’s “Testify”. I like this mashup because it’s not just one song’s instrumental’s over the other songs vocals but “Kids” instrumentals are mixed around the lyrics of “Testify”.  Mr. Rogers Productions – Testify To The Kids by BeforeBigsZach

Hidden Gem: The Band Eclypse

September 2nd, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap, Remix |

If Mike Posner likes this group, you know that is going to like them. The Band Eclypse is an 8-member band featuring two very talented rappers (Triple J and The 16th Seed) a singer (Jamie Ballan), and 5 very talented instrumentalists.

The Band Eclypse have been covering recently popular songs (“Day N’ Nite” & “Opposite of Adults”) but they don’t just cover these songs. They put their own flavor on it, much like Chiddy Bang & Hoodie Allen.

Listen and download “Day N’ Nite remix”, “Opposite of Adults Remix” and an original from them, “Break the Sky”.  The Band Eclypse – Opposite of Adults Remix by scuwat  The Band Eclypse – Break The Sky by BeforeBigsZach

I look forward to September 6 when their upcoming debut EP, Ten Past EP releases. Below is the official cover art for the EP.

Concert review: Weezer at Del Mar, Saturday 8/21

August 29th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Reviews, Rock |

The San Diego Summer Concert Series at Del Mar is about half-way done and already there have been some great performances including The B-52s, Jimmy Cliff (concert review here), Matisyahu, and Weezer.

Last Saturday they featured Weezer, which not only performed their most recent hits, but just about all of their classic hits. The image above is their album cover to Hurley, Weezer’s latest album coming out September 14. They were inspired by the character “Hurley” from the classic American TV show LOST.

Below is a two minute highlights video of Weezer’s performance at Del Mar Saturday, August 21 and videos some other people made there.

Two-minute Weezer/Del Mar highlights:

Weezer mashing up MGMT’s “Kids” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”
Weezer – “Island in the Sun”
If you’re in the SoCal area, I would check out ZZ Top on September 4, which concludes the 2010 Del Mar Summer Concert Series.

Weezer was so much fun as they made some funny jokes, did an awesome “Kids/Poker Face” mashup/cover in which Rivers Cuomo, lead singer of Weezer, put on a blond girl wig when Weezer performed parts of “Poker Face”. They rocked out playing all their greatest songs and performed close to two hours, more than I expected.

Hidden Gem: Neon Hitch

August 9th, 2010 by | Hidden Gem, Mashup Monday, Miscellaneous |
Neon Hitch is an artist you will hear on the radio by 2011, I guarantee it. Please check out her wikipedia page to hear about her interesting life story, even before her music career started, but UK’s Neon Hitch is a singer/songwriter who, in early 2010, signed with Warner Bros. Records by American Idol judge Kara Dioguardi. She is currently working on her debut album Beg, Borrow, and Steal. She co-wrote “Blah Blah Blah” for Ke$ha and co-wrote and sang with electro hop group 3OH!3.

Since Neon Hitch was signed by Warner, she has released several awesome mashup-covers which I have put below.  Neon Hitch-What Starry Eyes Know (Two Door Cinema Club vs. Ellie Goulding) by BeforeTheBigsZach  Neon Hitch – Drop It Like Its Hot (Snoop Dogg vs. Alina Orlova) by BeforeTheBigsZach  Neon Hitch – Cooler Than Me (Sia vs. Mike Posner) by ekoutez  Neon Hitch – Billionaire (Who Fuckin’ Cares) by BeforeTheBigsZach
