Great songs REMIXED pt.1 *Passion Pit, Matt & Kim, Foster the People and more!

May 14th, 2011 by | Remix |

I love the original to the above video and I love the remix even more, already watching it at least 8-10 times.

Anyways, best way to help lessen the many remixes/mashups I need to blog about, here’s five songs I really love that have been remixed. In some cases the original is better but other cases, the remix does add something special the original might lack. This is pt. 1 because all these remixes are kind of old and should have been blogged about at least 2 months ago.

First we got my all-time favorite Empire of the Sun track, “Walking on a Dream”, remixed by Kids At The Bar. Love how the hand-clap they throw in eventually get’s way more electronic and complex as the song progresses.
Empire of the Sun – Walking On A Dream (Kids At The Bar Remix)
Next Borgore remixes Passion Pit’s “Sleepyhead”, slowing the pace down a bit and overall making for a chill remix with cool electro and some subtle dubstep that isn’t overbearing to the beauty of Passion Pit‘s sound… sorry I love Passion Pit so much, somebody take me to see them live.

Foster the People came out with “Pumped Up Kicks” a long time ago yet the song suddenly gets mainstream radio play this year. Either way, MNDR decided to do a remix on it, adding some cool 80’s type instrumentals and keeping the vocals fairly intact for a solid remix.

I know remixes of Matt & Kim have gotten really old, and maybe the remixes continue to come out because all of us are dying to hear new music from them now if we haven’t seen them live. Either way, well done remix by Rusty Lazer & JJ Marshall who have some Big Freedia rapping too. The song gets taken into a different direction and the rapping almost seems like it’s not needed, but this is pretty cool to play in a dance/club atmosphere where your happy it keeps you moving.

One of my favorite groups from New Zealand, The Naked & Famous put out a wonderful track in 2010, “Young Blood” which Chiddy Bang remixed and rapped on (amazing!) and a few months back, Dave Sitek, guitarist in indie rock band, TV On The Radio, remixed “Young Blood”. I have a feeling he put some of his own guitar work on the remix, which is a great addition to the original and some electronic beats hear and there. Overall I like how Dave Sitek didn’t take hardly anything out of the original.

Matt and Kim – Cameras (music video)

January 24th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Music Video, Pop |

Official music video for “Cameras”, Matt and Kim’s first single from their Sidewalks album (purchase on iTunes). The video is basically Matt and Kim fighting in the recording studio, breaking a lot of stuff.

According to MTV, Matt and Kim both underwent stunt training before shooting the video but that there were still some on-set injuries during the shot.

Overall I think it’s a fun music video for a very fun song.

Yet another rapper has made a song in which a Matt and Kim song is sampled and why not? The instrumentals to their songs are very catchy. This time Myst freestyles over Matt and Kim’s “All Me” and his flow is very solid. Enjoy!

I know, I know; How could Matt & Kim be your “prospect of the week” if they have already dropped three incredible albums and have some ridiculously awesome concerts (never been, but dying to go).

It’s my birthday so I say, fuck it, Matt & Kim deserve our blog love. Below are three of my favorites off Sidewalks, which came out earlier this week.

Prospect of the Week: Donnis

October 28th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Prospect of the Week |

This Atlanta-based hip-hop/r&b artist was on XXL Magazine’s “Freshmen 10″ list alongside J. Cole and Atlantic Records labelmate, Wiz Khalifa.

He released an EP, entitled ‘Fashionably Late” in September and is working on his debut album, which should drop in Spring 2011. Right now he is also touring with dance-punk duo Matt & Kim.

He reminds of other Atlanta hip-hop like B.o.B and Big Boi. He’s on his way to really blowing up, especially when his album drops and his tour with Matt & Kim will only build his audience.

Listen and download my favorites by Donnis off his mixtape Diary of an ATL Brave (a must Download), his Fashionably Late mixtape (download), which dropped in June, and his Fashionably Late EP (Fashionably).
