Miami Horror – “The Shapes” *artsy concept album

March 24th, 2017 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Alternative/Indie, Electropop, New Wave, synthpop |

unnamed3 600x600 Miami Horror The Shapes *artsy concept albumOne of my favorite Australian bands is back with some great new music with their new concept album, The Shapes. After a two-year hiatus spent writing, experimenting and exploring, Melbourne’s Miami Horror return with their new conceptual project The Shapes.

The Shapes comes to life as a sonic / art experience and sees the band delve deep into rhythm and percussion with influences ranging from the art pop and lyrical wit of Talking Heads to Caribbean funk and African beats.  The first taste from The Shapes, “Leila” embodies the glitzy, glamorous sunshine of LA, draped in 80s synth melodies and topped with those iconic Miami Horror vocals, it’s a fitting first single.

unnamed 600x600 Miami Horror Leila *NEW 80s INSPIRED CONCEPTUAL RECORDOne of my all-time favorite Australian bands Miami Horror has released a new single “Leila” which will be on their new 80′s-inspired conceptual record The Shapes out March 17th.

Stream “Leila” below which has this upbeat disco vibe that is a lot of

“Leila” is the first song released from Miami Horror‘s new conceptual release The Shapes - a unique 5 track release that has Miami Horror step out of their comfort zone. The Shapes combines upbeat percussive grooves, with experimental vocal styles that echo Talking Heads and other post-new wave groups of the 80s.

In conjunction with the EP’s release, Miami Horror are working closely with visual artists that have inspired their music such as Erin Garcia, Spenceroni, Lynnie Zulu & Annukil, as well as Argentinian and South African artists John Mccam & Sebatian Borkenhagen.

I can’t wait to hear the rest of The Shapes and give you guys a thorough review of the 5-track EP, I love everything Miami Horror does and this continues their vibrant electric vibe they bring to their music.

Review: Culture Collide Festival (Miami Horror, Mystery Skulls, Gemini Club, Plastic Plates, Maya Vik, and Ghost Wave)

October 15th, 2013 by | Concert/Festival Review |

Review: Culture Collide Festival (Miami Horror, Mystery Skulls, Gemini Club, Plastic Plates, Maya Vik, and Ghost Wave)Late last week I caught Filter Magazine’s 4th Annual Culture Collide Festival. I went to days one and two of the three day festival and thoroughly enjoyed most of the acts I saw, although this years lineup didn’t have the same sexiness that previous lineups had, although Maya Vik is one sexy lead singer/guitarist! Read more below for reviews on the acts I enjoyed, which included: Maya VikGhost WavePlastic PlatesMiami Horror (DJ Set + live band), Gemini Club and Mystery Skulls.

I was going to write reviews of every band I saw but I didn’t enjoy every band and feel it’s better to not saying anything at all on them if I have nothing good to say.

Pacific Festival: The Dunes 2012 preview + official festival mix

August 21st, 2012 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Daily Mix, Guest Mix |

Pacific Festival The Dunes Sept 2 2012 385x600 Pacific Festival: The Dunes 2012 preview + official festival mixSouthern California’s Pacific Festival: The Dunes 2012 is quickly approaching and I thought I would provide some details into one of the most underrated festivals in California. Not only is there a great variety of music from retro soul crooner Mayer Hawthorne to daytime disco duo Poolside to probably the best electro-dance pop/rock band ever, Capital Cities, this is a festival you don’t want to miss on Sunday September 2! This festival will be set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean at The Dunes in Newport Beach with DJ sets from plenty of up-and-comers you need to see live including Bag Raiders, Goldroom andMiami Horror to name a few.

The best way for me to express my excitement for Pacific Festival (which we reviewed last year), is to once again provide the “unofficial” Pacific Festival 2012 mixtape, which features 15 of my favorite songs from the acts performing at this year’s festival. Stream the 15-track mix below as well as the official “Pacific Festival: The Dunes 2012″ mix. Purchase tickets here and visit PacificFestival.com for more info on this must-see event that added the people behind Identity Festival to make this year’s festival even more of a rager! (more…)
