Jon Connor – I’m Heavy x Don’t Wanna Be

July 19th, 2012 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Flint, Michigan rapper Jon Connor is set to release his new record, “While You Were Sleeping” on July 26 (his fourth release in a year). He just dropped the second and third leak off of the new record, “Don’t Wanna Be” and “I’m Heavy”

Connor’s previous releases this year have each been free mixtapes, with him rapping over other’s beats (including Jay-Z and Belinda Carlisle‘s classic, “Place On Earth“). “While You Were Sleeping” marks a return to The People’s Rapper rhyming over original production.

“I’m Heavy” features Mistah Fab, an underground hip-hop legend from the Bay Area. Stream and download below.

“Don’t Wanna Be” features a stripped-down beat produced by Brix with Connor providing his usual aggressive flow and positive message. That being said, “Don’t Wanna Be” works great as a windows-down/volume-up banger!

Jon Connor update *new music video and album

August 25th, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

Jon Connor is probably my favorite rapper with connections to one of the most unemployed cities in America, Flint, Michigan. Random connection but Jon Connor is a hustlin’ rapper with serious flow and potential for greatness. Recently he dropped a music video for “F.L.I. 69”, which has incredible rapping over a catchy gangsta beat that I can’t get enough of. Swag all over this track!

“F.L.I. 69” is off Jon Connor‘s latest album, Salvation (DOWNLOAD), which came out in July. Listen and download the 2 hottest tracks from the album.

Shout out to Pooch from This Bonus Track for letting me know about his friend, Josh Smith aka Smitty. Josh Smith makes a genre-blending mix of hip-hop with influences of pop and electronic for a smooth sound. Here’s two of my favorites from Josh Smith, who has a truly unique sound among the average emerging talents these days.

Hidden Gem: Jon Connor *most underrated lyricist?

March 27th, 2011 by | Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

An artist I’m ashamed to say we never blogged about until today is Jon Connor. He is one of the most underrated hip-hop artists not a ton of people know about and I love how he pours his feelings into his rhymes; superb lyricism as evidence by the music video above.

Here’s my five favorite tracks from the Flint, Michigan MC including download links to his latest mixtape.
Keep Your Head ft. Elite
Girls feat. Blue City Club (dope Cyndi Lauper sample)
Black Lambo
The Message
Download Jon Connor’s last mixtape, Jon Connor as Vinnie Chase: Season 1, which has big name artists like Rick Ross and The Game showing their support. If you really like Jon Connor, I suggest you buy his last project on bandcamp. Either way, follow Jon Connor on facebook and twitter because you don’t want to miss the future rap star’s latest.

Gilbere Forte’ – Please Don’t Worry x Born in ’87 x Train Lights

February 3rd, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

If there’s a rapper that you should follow closely in 2011 because big things are going to happen for him, it’s Gilbere Forte. The Flint, Michigan MC jumped onto the scene in Kanye West’s remix to the electro house song by Stromae, which turned out to be a great club hit worldwide.

In 2011 he has released four new songs, two of which are featured on his upcoming project dropping February 8, EYES of VERITAS, which is hosted by Don Cannon. Below are three of my favorites from Gilbere in 2011 so far. *click the down arrow on the left side of soundcloud player to download that song*
