Introducing Manicanparty *Alternative pop

April 1st, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Pop |

Manicanparty is an alternative group composed of two individuals- Jessica and Patrick. Jessica is the vocalist/writer and Pat produces all the music. To put them in a genre in an “I-tunes sense” they would be labeled as Alternative but, according to their manager (who manages OnCue), there’s inflections of a lot of different genres in their music.  It all depends on what song your listening to.

They’re based out of Brooklyn by way of Minnesota. Here’s Manicanparty‘s debut, “Rebel In The Light”.

If your like me and can’t wait for more from this up-and-coming duo, then follow Manicanparty on twitter.

Hidden Gem: Polica *hipster R&B/pop

February 22nd, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Hidden Gem, Music Video, R&B |

I really don’t know how to describe Polica‘s music. This Minnesota alternative band is real hot, has huge breakout potential among the indie/hipster crowd and I’m seriously disappointed in myself for not seeing them live last night at Bootleg Theater in LA.

Shout out to @JDBabbit27 for sending me Polica‘s stuff and shout out to @BoomD for posting,”Amongster” in his latest Supergoodmusic Concert Blast.

Polica began as a collaborative effort between Channy Casselle and Ryan Olson, of Roma di Luna (Channy) and Gayngs (both) fame, back in June 2010. By July the pair had already finished 11 songs and sought out drummers Ben Ivascu and Drew Christopherson (yes, that’s right, two kits for double the awesomeness) to complete the project.

Recently, the band released their debut album, “Give You the Ghost” (iTunes). I haven’t listened to the whole project yet but from what I heard, they have this almost dreamy hipster R&B sound that reminds me of “Wildfire” but more on the hipster pop side and more subtle.

Introducing Cato *Hip-Pop

August 23rd, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop |

Cato is a hip-pop artist from the twin cities of Minnesota. In the last couple months, Cato and his management have been hitting me up with Cato’s music. A couple of tracks I have enjoyed while some others I have dismissed.

Cato is dropping his debut project with Last Call Recordings, The Nite Owl Mixtape, dropping August 31. Listen and download “Take em Down” and “Camera Zoom”, two of my favorites off the upcoming mixtape.

Cato – Take em Down

Cato – Camera Zoom

After the jump, watch the official music video to Cato’s “Camera Zoom”. (more…)

Hidden Gem: Sims

June 16th, 2011 by | Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap |

I think this blog needs to do a hidden gem daily. We consider a musician a hidden gem when we believe they have great music that many more people need to know about.

Sims has been rapping for a long time, being one of the original members of Minnesota hip-hop collective Doomtree. I saw him perform live in late April and he was my favorite performer that night… and he wasn’t even the headliner!

In February, Sims released Bad Time Zoo, a must-download album which you can grab on bandcamp. I love at least half the songs, but here’s my five favorites.
Sims – Burn It Down (Must-DOWNLOAD)
Sims – Good Times
Sims – Weight
Sims – Sink or Syncopate
Sims – Hey You

In early January he released a music video to his first single off Bad Time Zoo, “Burn It Down”. After the jump watch the official music video. (more…)
