Na Palm – Late At Night (Mixtape)

August 17th, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Dubstep, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop |

After much anticipation, Na Palm finally dropped his newest project Late At Night yesterday. We’ve already heard a couple of his newest tracks which have leaked over the course of this summer which have shown promise. However, a three of the tracks on this mixtape are just remixes of songs he has done in the past. That is a little bit of a buzz kill to me but his newest stuff is actually pretty solid.

He has a lot of versatility on this mixtape, providing a wide variety of genres from hip-hop, dubstep/electronic, pop, and even a couple of laid back tracks. Na Palm still has a way to go but he is getting better. Enjoy a few of the tracks below off of Late At Night which I enjoy, hopefully you do too.

Na Palm – “Cakeboss”

Another dubstep influenced track by Na Palm and personally, I am a little disappointed. I thought it was a great track until half way through it when the dubstep riff comes in. Nothing against dubstep but I feel it is a bit over used. besides that fact, the rapping is great and the slower, less dubstep influenced beat is solid. Enjoy!

Dance Remix *Moby, Proper Villians, Soundpusher, Cobra Starship, Lightwaves

Usually I list the artists that get remixed but decided to list the artists that remix the songs in the post title.

First we go with Moby who remixed electronic pop artist Holy Ghost!‘s “Wait & See”. I have never been a fan of Moby, too many people influenced the idea to me that he’s not someone to like so I have never sought out his music. Happy this stumbled its way to my iTunes.

Next we go with Proper Villains remix of Dev‘s “Dancing In The Dark”. Proper Villains adds some dope instrumentals to add just another element to a song I normally wouldn’t like but the remix is banging.

Does anybody know how Na Palm has over 225,000 facebook fans!?! That’s so many from a musician whose stuff I haven’t really heard on the radio, haven’t seen anything from him on TV and haven’t heard of any worldwide tour. Either way, The Soundpusher Club-Step Edit to “Two Days Straight” turns this into a banger that needs to be played in the clubs.

Cobra Starship decides to remix a Chromeo song. I like the instrumentals they add, really adds more of an 80’s electro-pop feel to it. Mostly I’m a fan of the Daft Punk-sounding hook but the instrumentals are so smooth.
Chromeo – Hot Mess (Cobra Starship Remix)
Lastly one of my favorite up-and-coming musicians in Australia, Strange Talk, got remixed by Lightwaves. I love the original and the remix has some solid additions, nothing too special but if you like the original, you will really like this. If you like remixes, there’s a good chance you will like this. If you like to dance, this is a fairly solid tune to groove to.

Na Palm – She Like That (ft. Machine Gun Kelly)

An awesome new collab has finally cyber space. Na Palm and Machine Gun Kelly get together to create “She Like That”, a dubstep influenced hip-hop track with both artists killing with their rapping over a hard beat. Truthfully, I am growing a little tired of dubstep but this track adds a bit of a spark to it. I was also not fully sold on MGK but now I am starting to like him and this track has a lot to do with that. Enjoy!

I have included the Soundpushers Remix and the original Na Palm track below. Not too much difference expect the remix is more upbeat.

In my opinion, this soundpushers remix is so much better than the original! What do you think?

Na Palm has a couple new remixes which came out earlier this week. They are called “NayTLiens” (OutKast remix) and “You Don’t Have to Leave” (Mike Posner remix). Even though he remixed songs where the original versions are already amazing, Na Palm has amazing flow in them. Check them out for yourself and let us know what you think. Na Palm released a music video for “Nay Is Like” which is a remix to “Nas Is Like” and I got to say, this dude can spit. He has great flow and takes a lot of pride in his hometown of Chicago in this video. Enjoy!

Prospect of the Week: Na Palm

Na Palm will enter the mainstream music scene before this year is over! I have been following the Chicago native for a few weeks now and he is one talented artist. He mixes a lot of genres together, mostly focusing on rapping over club banger/electronic beats. However he has a lot of chill, relaxing songs as well. Look out for this guy to blow up on the radio within the next few months!
