Vampire Weekend new album in 2017?

June 12th, 2017 by | Alternative/Indie |

I’ve been hearing rumors that Vampire Weekend will be releasing a new record in 2017 as they’ve inked a deal with Columbia Records recently. Lead singer Ezra Koenig gave an update to Pitchfork in regards to this, saying the album is tentatively titled Mitsubishi Macchiato. This would be the band’s fourth album and first without Rostam Batmanglij, who has done fantastic work with Hamilton + Rostam, I just love the song, “A 1000 Times”.

Vampire Weekend are anticipated to follow up on the success of their first three albums, with the release of Mitsubishi Macchiato later this year. I can’t wait to hear anything new from VW, I just love this band and the eclectic sounds each of their previous releases have provided.

In the meantime, watch Vampire Weekend perform “Unbelievers” on SNL back in 2013. (more…)

Review: Mother Mother live @ Troubadour *high energy hard rock!

May 24th, 2017 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Electronic Rock, Music Video, Rock |

5-piece indie rock band Mother Mother surprised the shit out of me with high energy hard rock, getting the whole crowd banging their heads along with the five-piece band. It was a packed house last night at the famous Troubadour in West Hollywood as an equal number of males and females rocked out to Mother Mother.

Each song they performed felt like an epic hard rock ballad, I hope this band can perform in arenas and larger venues because their sound is best suited to be played loud and they will definitely be playing in venues larger than the Troubadour. But for every fan there last night, we were delighted with a long set of hard rocking songs that reminded me of bands like QueenYoungblood Hawke and Coheed & Cambria.

Yes, I mentioned three bands that don’t have much in common but while enjoying Mother Mother‘s set, I felt like they were a mix of rock, with influences of electro, punk and some pop with the harmonies. Many of the songs felt like awesome roller coaster rides of sound, sonically dynamic and exhilarating!

It’s hard to pick a favorite because I enjoyed most of them and sometimes it was hard to hear what they were singing so hard to remember many of them but their new single “Love Stuck” is catchy and probably my favorite. Watch the official video for it below and learn about all the songs Mother Mother played in their set last night! (more…)

As of yesterday, it was announced that hip-hop superstar Jay-Z will release his newest album next month! It will be called Magna Carta Holy Grail and will be released three days early for all Samsung users (for free). Hova is a pioneer in the hip-hop world and we expect nothing but greatness in this album with lots of collaborations (including Pharrell, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland and more). It should be quite an exciting album.

Josh Hoke Releases New Album “Ghosts and Glory”

January 29th, 2013 by | Alternative/Indie |

Have you ever played an album over and over and not been sick of it? From Waiting Here through Into the Night, Josh Hoke gives us just that feeling. His new album “Ghosts and Glory” will leave you wanting–begging for more.

Hailing from Portland, originally a Midwestern man, Josh’s rough, soulful voice paired with his guitar is reminiscent of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Iron and Wine.

If you are anywhere near Portland over the next couple of days there are a few things you do not want to miss. You can catch Josh on KZME 107.1 FM Thursday around 12 noon and also at his album release show that night 8 PM at the Secret Society.

Take a listen to a few songs off his new album, and enjoy!

Hidden Gem: The Chain Gang of 1974

June 21st, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Dance, Hidden Gem |

The Chain Gang of 1974 is a electronic/punk/pop band based out of Denver. I’m usually on the fence with them, meaning some tracks I like, while others I’m not interested in.

Today TCG 1974 (solid acronym right?) released The Wayward Fire, an album I think displays interesting sound that has a base in electronica with influences in 80’s pop, punk, and uses some cool synths. Overall I’m loving the instrumentals and the vocals are alright depending on who you ask. This is definitely an album worth checking out on iTunes. Here’s a couple of my favorites from the album.
The Chain Gang of 1974 – STOP!
The Chain Gang of 1974 – Matter of Time

The Beastie Boys are Back!

April 28th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Came across info on the Beastie Boys newest album, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two just the other day. I had no idea they were working on a new project until then and I couldn’t be happier. The same old vintage  Beastie Boys still remains on this new album with a little bit of new sound in some of their tracks. Their website states:

“Good people, unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, the “clean” version of our new album, The Hot Sauce Committee pt 2 has leaked. So as a hostile and retaliatory measure with great hubris we are making the full explicit aka filthy dirty nasty version available for streaming on our site. We hope this brings much happiness, hugs, and harmony. Enjoy Kikoos for life!

Thank you, The Management”

The whole album is great but here are some of my favorite by them off their newest album:

Listen to the entire Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 album and pre-order it if you please here

As you can see the Beastie Boys are very legit guys who love what they do and love sharing their music with the world. Check out a funny music video below of Danny McBride, Seth Rogan, and Elijah Wood doing a funny impression of the Beastie Boys with many big Hollywood cameos making an appearance. Enjoy!

Zero Heroes is Here!

April 15th, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Hip-Hop/Rap |

With a handful of tracks from XV’s newest album Zero Heroes, leaking in the past month or so, we present you with the album in it’s entirety which officially dropped today. Vizzy is once again sensational in this album, setting him aside from many of the other hip-hop up-and-comers in the game right now. In this album, he shows many influences similar to Drake and Lupe Fiasco. The Wichita, Kansas native continues to impress with his work and he is only getting better. Each track provides it’s own uniqueness which you will not be disappointed with. XV has put Kansas on the map and thats just the beginning. This guy is way better than Wiz Khalifa in my opinion and soon the mainstream radio stations, MTV, and everyone will know who he is. He is quickly becoming a household name which you should not be sleeping on whatsoever. Check out some of my favorite tracks from Zero Heroes and definitely download the entire album. Enjoy!

“That’s Just Me”

“Best Days of Our Lives” (featuring Donnis)

“Textbook Stuff” (featuring Kendrick Lamar)

“The Last Hero” (featuring Patrick Stump)

“Swervin'”

Lupe Fiasco – Lasers (album)

March 8th, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap |

Buy Lupe Fiasco’s newest album, Lasers, which came out today! Here’s 5 reasons songs that make this album great and that we haven’t posted on here before.
I Don’t Wanna Care Right Now Ft. MDMA
Out Of My Head Ft. Trey Songz
Beautiful Lasers (2Ways) ft. MDMA
Coming Up Ft. MDMA
Break The Chain Ft. Eric Turner And Sway
To be honest, this isn’t Lupe Fiasco‘s best album but Food & Liquor was amazing. However this album is still great and it evolves with where hip-hop music is going towards upbeat dance beats. Lasers shows us why Lupe Fiasco is one of the most under-appreciated rapper’s in America.

The White Panda – Pandamonium (album) *killer mashup mix

March 3rd, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Daily Mix, Mashup |

This week, The White Panda released their latest album, Pandamonium, a 40-track mix featuring some of their past mashups, tons of new mashup’s and overall a MUST DOWNLOAD if you like mashups. Once again, The White Panda show why they are possibly the best 2 song mashup artist, always seeming to find 2-3 songs that fit in so well to mashup.

There’s tons of great mashups on this mix, but here’s my top four favorites.
Bust A Love (Haddaway x Young MC)

Damn I Can’t Stop (Red Hot Chili Peppers x Youngbloodz)

D.R.E Don’t Go (Mike Posner x Dr. Dre)

Walking On Al (Paul Simon x Empire Of The Sun)

Featuring B.o.B *new J. Cole & The Script

January 23rd, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, R&B, Remix |

Whenever B.o.B is on a song, he kills it and turns the song into gold. Ok maybe that’s an overstatement but Bobby Ray is a talented hip-hop/R&B artist that, when featured on a song, usually makes the song better.

Below are three examples.
The Script – Walk Away Remix Ft B.o.B (right-click to download)
Passing Me By (ft. B.o.B.) – J. Cole
Lloyd Ft. B.o.B & Rock City – Lay It Down (Remix)

If your a big fan of The Script, their latest album, Science & Faith, came out last tuesday and is available on iTunes.
