Satellite Stories – Family *Catchy like Phoenix!

June 21st, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Pop, Rock |

New single from my favorite music group from Finland, Satellite Stories. Haven’t blogged about them or heard much from them since Fall 2010 so I was fairly excited when I got an email from their people this morning with their new single, “Family”.

Here’s a little of what the band had to say about the song:

It could be described as our most Phoenix-influenced song yet with touches of Wombats-meets-Vampire Weekend.

“Family” starts off rocking, then settles in with some sick guitar riffs, easy to follow lyrics and very catchy hooks. Seriously I don’t know many other indie rock/pop groups with hooks as catchy as Satellite Stories.

J. Cole update *5 new songs!

June 17th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

It’s been too long since we blogged about J. Cole, especially considering all this music of his has been dropping left and right. He seriously is going to blow up as he has this raw swagger in his flow and you can feel the lyrics. Once his untitled debut album drops, still TBA, I see his popularity soaring.  So here’s five of J. Cole’s latest songs that I especially enjoy.
Work Out (confirmed single off debut album, MUST-DOWNLOAD)
Lost Ones
Return of Simba
Disgusting (prod. by J. Cole) (dope beat, silly lyrics, Kanye West?)

I’m From Barcelona – Get In Line *tons of catchy indie folks

March 7th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Music Video |

Want a catchy indie/alternative song that would be so super fun singing along to if you saw this group live or if you just like singing, then look no further. I’m From Barcelona recently released visuals to “Get In Line” their first single off their upcoming third album, Forever Today, out April 19. This 27-member band not from Barcelona (actually from Sweden), has super fun indie music and I look forward to more new music from this super group.

it’s time to get down with Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears

February 15th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Music Video |

Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears are one of my favorite blues/soul bands out there because frankly, there are not too many that are still around today with how the music industry has evolved. They have a retro appeal much like Fitz & The Tantrums and a little bit like The Black Keys but specifically have sound a bit like James Brown and carry some of his swagger as well.

My brother saw them open up for Passion Pit last year and even though Black Joe Lewis hasn’t released new music since 2009, when they released an four song EP and then in March 2009 released their debut album, Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is!

Their album is a must buy for anybody that is down to have a good time with some soulful rock/blues. Here’s a few reasons why you should buy their album.
Gunpowder
Sugarfoot
Get Yo Shit
Earlier today, Black Joe Lewis released a song on iTunes which is worth checking out as well.

Wiz Khalifa – Roll Up (Prod. Stargate)

January 28th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop |

Another new Wiz Khalifa track. The third single known as “Roll Up” is off his upcoming debut album, Rolling Papers, set to drop on March 29th. This is another “pop” sounding song which Pittsburgh’s finest has been experimenting with quite a bit recently. Though it sounds quite different than the majority of his other tracks, I love it a lot. He is trying to expand his fan base far beyond just the stoner college kids and he’s doing a great job at it. This track was produced by Stargate. Enjoy!

Wiz Khalifa – On My Level ft. Too $hort (music video)

January 27th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

This is going to be the 2nd single off Wiz Khalifa‘s upcoming album, Rolling Papers, dropping March 29. The tracklist for the album will be out within a few weeks, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this album shapes up as it’s his debut album under Atlantic Records.

“On My Level” sounds like it could be a Kid Cudi song, real chill relaxed song about what Wiz loves doing all the time, smoking weed. The latest tracks Khalifa has been releasing have all been a little different than most of his past material.

Fortune Family – Hasta La Vista ft. OnCue *DOPE Hip-Hop collabo

January 23rd, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Two rising artists collaborating to create something special. This is Fortune Family’s second single for their upcoming Paradox EP, dropping February 1st.

“Hasta La Vista” features alternative hip-hop MC OnCue and samples Sufjan Stevens “Come On! Feel The Illinoise!” and Jay-Z’ “Public Service Announcement” to make for a chill hip-hop jam.

Bonus: OnCue dropped an snippet of his next track, “That Feelin'”. It’s only a minute long but it’s dope and I can’t wait to here the full track.

¡MAYDAY! – High and Lows ft. Ace Hood

January 16th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B |

One of my favorite hip-hop band’s of 2010, ¡MAYDAY! is building a strong reputation in the music industry with their rap/rock blend coupled with dope lyricism. It’s no wonder artists like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and now Ace Hood have collaborated with the Florida group.

“Highs and Lows” is a chill hip-hop jam with a good chorus. It’s hard not to enjoy a ¡MAYDAY! song and this song is a good example.

The White House Band – Sky High *interesting rap/rock jam

January 15th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

“Sky High” is the newest single from The White House Band, who have dope rock instrumentals to go along with some good rapping. I think The White House Band are improving and this is one of the better jams I have heard from them.
