Download: Earl Sweatshirt – Chum

November 3rd, 2012 by | Chill/Jam/Reggae, Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap |

8150645997 0e97cf5f25 Download: Earl Sweatshirt ChumEarl Sweatshirt is one of the many members of Odd Future. Odd Future is a hip-hop collective that is led by controversial rapper, Tyler The Creator. I don’t know if it’s Earl Sweatshirt’s smooth flow or the laid back beat that is more enticing but regardless, its a great song that I can’t seem to get enough of.

Hodgy Beats & Tyler, The Creator – “NY (Ned Flander)” (Music Video)

March 6th, 2012 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

In celebration of Tyler, The  Creator‘s 21st birthday (which is today), Odd Future has decided to drop yet another music video called “NY (Ned Flander) off their much anticipated upcoming, Odd Future Vol. 2 mixtape. They continue to show here how talented (yet very bizarre) they are. Their music videos are absolutely hilarious and I look forward to the entire release of their new project. Enjoy!

Frank Ocean – Her

frank ocean 199x300 Frank Ocean HerI’m convinced Frank Ocean is the best singer in the world. There is something about his voice that makes me melt, whether he’s covering something, or being creepy as hell in Odd Future videos, remixing, or make originals. Although he is one of the more…..calm…members of Odd Future, he’s still pretty out there. If this song doesn’t make you melt, I’m questioning your soul.

Introducing BadBadNotGood *Jazz covers hip-hop

July 24th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie |

odd future sessions Introducing BadBadNotGood *Jazz covers hip hopBadBadNotGood is a Jazz ensemble that covers quality hip-hop, including Odd Future, A Tribe Called Quest and much more. Earlier this month they released a 6-track self-titled EP (DOWNLOAD here), which is just so relaxing yet doesn’t put you to sleep since the instrumentals have a familiar sound as they cover these hip-hop songs but in jazz. Here’s my three favorites from the EP.

BadBadNotGood – Electric Relaxation

BadBadNotGood – Salmonella

BadBadNotGood – Hard In The Paint

However giving you three songs without any visuals isn’t enough, so here’s the reason why you should pay attention to BadBadNotGood. After the jump, two videos which are a part of The Odd Future Sessions and a video for “Electric Relaxation”. (more…)

Tyler The Creator – Goblin

May 11th, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Hip-Hop/Rap |

tyler the creator1 Tyler The Creator GoblinTalk about hyping up your shit only to hear just about the same lyrics, mostly the same production, and mostly the same features. Tyler The Creator‘s GOBLIN is just a little bit better than BASTARD but after hearing Tyler talking about how this album would be different than his other stuff, I was disappointed to hear basically the same lyrical material with slightly better production.

Some people are going to take this project and say it’s great, because they love how different Tyler The Creator is. Some are going to say they love it, because they feel the need to buy into the hype with the rest of their suburban white friends and/or the blogs they follow talking about how much they love the album. Either way, I think the album is good, not great. I hope it does well in record sales but I really hope that this opens up more opportunities for the rest of Odd Future as the MellowHype duo, Mike G, and especially Jet Age of Tomorrow are under-appreciated.

Anyways, here’s my two favorite songs that haven’t been posted on here before.
Tyler The Creator – Sandwitches (Featuring Hodgy Beats)
Tyler The Creator – Analog (Featuring Hodgy Beats)
If you are a fan of Tyler The Creator and you still spend money on music, then I recommend buying Goblin. Below watch a video of an old lady reading a few of Tyler The Creator’s tweets. (more…)

OFWGKTA update *Earl, Mike G, Frank Ocean & Hodgy Beats

April 8th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B |

tumblr lfcnt1U1CR1qzx3jto1 500 OFWGKTA update *Earl, Mike G, Frank Ocean & Hodgy BeatsOdd Future just released an old gem from Earl Sweatshirt called “Dat Ass.” Personally, I like this song because it’s not terrifying. I know the dudes from Odd Future can rap, and it’s cool to see them all rap over more traditional hip-hop beats. I know it’s short, but Earl’s flow is super tight and he uses tons of internal rhymes while fitting in some real awesome punch lines. All I can say is: FREE EARL

Another rapper in Odd Future that should be almost as highly regarded as Tyler The Creator would be Hodgy Beats. “Make My Day” sounds like one of those classy 90′s hip-hop songs that people today listen to and remember for a long time. This would’ve been a great follow-up single for T.W.D.Y. This song came out last year as the first single off Hodgy Beats upcoming mixtape, BeatPads & NotePads.
Hodgy Beats – Make My Day
This is a more common beat for many of the hip-hop members of Odd Future with Mike G in “Forest Green”. I think the rapping is solid, nothing outstanding the beat is chill and would be interesting is somebody sped up the song in some electronic-type remix. First single off Mike G’s upcoming album, GOLD.
Mike G – Forest Green
Next we got R&B member of OFWGKTA, Frank Ocean. Here’s a new song he released since he released his mixtape, Nostalgia/Ultra, in February. Like the acoustic instrumentals with amazing vocals as many record labels are rumored to be looking to sign this future R&B/Soul star.
Frank Ocean – Pyrite (Fool’s Gold)

Hodgy Beats – “Mystery” (OFWGKTA)

Hodgy Beats Hodgy Beats Mystery (OFWGKTA)Hodgy Beats of Odd Future delivers an awesome new track. It’s called “Mystery” and it samples Moody Blues. Although it has a simple beat, the rapping is quite raw. He and Tyler the Creator are without a doubt the best rappers in the group and I expect them to have a lot of success in the near future. Enjoy!

B.o.B Disses Odd Future and Tyler The Creator

March 25th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

bob rapper B.o.B Disses Odd Future and Tyler The CreatorAfter Tyler The Creator from Odd Future dissed B.o.B in his hit single “Yonkers”, Bobby Ray decided to return the beef in his new track “No Future”. Towards the end of the track he says, “Keep fuckin’ wit me you gon have no future”. This was after Tyler The Creator took a stab at his music and though I love Tyler’s music, I did lose a little bit of respect for him after he ripped on arguably the biggest hip-hop act in the game right now. Good work B.o.B at showing Tyler The Creator whose boss. Enjoy!

mixtapes you missed pt 1 *Frank Ocean, Gabriel Stark, Guy Harrison, J. Nolan, Mickey Factz

March 21st, 2011 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B |

mickey factz smh mixtapes you missed pt 1 *Frank Ocean, Gabriel Stark, Guy Harrison, J. Nolan, Mickey FactzBest way for me to give you a ton of music I should’ve blogged about that I’m finally doing is by posting my favorite songs from mixtapes I have been meaning to blog about. Then I realized I had a ton of mixtapes that I needed to blog about, so I eliminated mixtapes not from 2011 and mixtapes from major label artists (except under the radar MC Mickey Factz).

Here’s pt. 1 of mixtapes you might have missed:

ca5f5 Albums FrankOcean nostalgia,ULTRA. 2011 mixtapes you missed pt 1 *Frank Ocean, Gabriel Stark, Guy Harrison, J. Nolan, Mickey FactzFirst we got Frank Ocean, the R&B member of Odd Future who dropped his mixtape/free album in late February titled, nostalgia/ultra. Frank Ocean is a rising R&B artist who may have the brightest future of OFWGKTA and in this mixtape he showcases his vocal ability in sampling some great tracks and some original tracks as well. My two favorites off the mixtape:
Frank Ocean – strawberry swing
Frank Ocean – nature feels
Optimized T.G.I.S Thank God Its Starky 1024x1024 mixtapes you missed pt 1 *Frank Ocean, Gabriel Stark, Guy Harrison, J. Nolan, Mickey FactzNext we got Hip-Hop/R&B artist Gabriel Stark, who surprised me with how much quality came out of his debut mixtape, T.G.I.S (Thank God It’s Starky). I like almost all the tracks on his mixtape but will give you my 3 favorites instead.
Gabriel Stark – Lay
Gabriel Stark – 5950
Gabriel Stark – Times Are Changing
Guy Harrison The Deadline front large mixtapes you missed pt 1 *Frank Ocean, Gabriel Stark, Guy Harrison, J. Nolan, Mickey FactzI only stumbled on hip-hop/alternative artist Guy Harrison‘s mixtape because of an automated direct message he sent me on twitter when I started following him. I downloaded the mixtape since I had already had a really good song from him before and was impressed with his rapping ability and the production from his mixtape, The Deadline. My two favorites:
Guy Harrison – Big Time
Guy Harrison – Brotherly (Feat. Wes)
262y4xt.jpg 150x150 mixtapes you missed pt 1 *Frank Ocean, Gabriel Stark, Guy Harrison, J. Nolan, Mickey FactzNext we got rapper J.Nolan with a mixtape he released in late January/early February, The Loose Files. I’m a big fan of this mixtape because of the instrumentals and overall production plus J. Nolan’s rapping is solid, nothing special, but it flows well over the production.
J.Nolan – Corazon (prod. Yung B Da Producer)
J.Nolan – On My Own(prod. Corey Pow)
J.Nolan – Get Out The Game(prod. Frontier)

mickey factz 450x299 mixtapes you missed pt 1 *Frank Ocean, Gabriel Stark, Guy Harrison, J. Nolan, Mickey FactzI saved the best for last with Mickey Factz. Best not only because he has loads of potential but because here are my favorite songs from his last two projects, the re-release of his most note-worthy project Heaven’s Fallout (re-release is from 2011 but original is 4 years ago). Below is 4 tracks from that: 2 songs that were re-released and 2 new tracks he released this year.
Mickey Factz – Robot Rock feat. Steve-O
Mickey Factz – Access Granted
Mickey Factz – Bonus. Distressed
Mickey Factz – Bonus. Back In Time
Last week Mickey Factz released his latest mixtape, Love Lust Loss. I thought the project was solid but compared to Heaven’s Fallout, it’s more alternative and sounds a bit like Theophilus London production in the songs. Here’s my 2 favorites from that:
Mickey Factz – A Train Final Mix
Mickey Factz – Trinity

I know giving you 6 different mixtapes is a lot but hopefully you download all these mixtapes or at least the 16 songs above. I hope this great music gets you through your week. Let me know which artist you like the most.
