Once again it’s time for another edition of Best You Never Heard. This time were nearing the end of Spring and into one of my favorite seasons of the year, Summer. Shouts to Jann at SPR with the cover art. As a guideline, we made sure none of the artists chosen had more than 10,000 followers on facebook or twitter.
Listen and download 20 tracks from some of the best up-and-coming artists from a variety of our favorite genres as we present to you Best You Never Heard 3: end of Spring edition.
When Theo Martins released “The Spotlight” recently, I knew had to jump on listening to this. Once again Theo Martins thrives sampling a variety of non-hip-hop tracks and bringing this indie hip-hop/pop to the song he samples.
Lately I have noticed a more electro/hip-hop feel with his music which I like a lot since he is working towards what the music industry’s mainstream sound is evolving into; more upbeat dance club instrumentals.
In “The Spotlight” he goes in a more electro synth instrumentals with the Class Actress sample. Love the instrumentals, rapping over it is cooler than Theophilus London which he reminds me of in this song but this is a bit more alternative with more mainstream rapping. Below listen and download two older favorites of mine from Theo Martins, one which is a remix to a remix that includes the likes of Passion Pit and Bruno Mars and the other more of an indie popish song with some hip-hop that samples Wakey!Wakey! Also new music below! (more…)
Chase & Status are an electro duo who hail from London, UK. It consists of Saul “Chase” Milton and Will “Status” Kennard. The duo have a very unique electronic/pop sound to their music and have quite catchy tracks. They have actually been quite popular in England for a while and currently have over 3,000 fans on their facebook page. They are just now starting to become mainstream. I actually just heard them on XM radio the other day. Their first album, More Than Alot, debuted in the UK album charts at number 49 on October 19, 2008. Since then they have been up to a lot with tours all over England and many other parts of Europe. They just released their second album,No More Idols, on January 31stand it’s a good one. Expect a lot from this electro duo in the near future. In the meantime, enjoy two of my favorite tracks by them “Streetlife” (featuring Takura) and “End Credits” (featuring Plan B).
