Review: Ocelot Robot album release party at Molly Malone’s

September 30th, 2013 by | Concert/Festival Review, Pop, Rock |

Last Thursday, I witnessed one of my favorite emerging pop rock acts out of Los Angeles in Ocelot Robot. This group knows how to shred as they headlined a kick ass concert at Molly Malone’s in Los Angeles for their new album release, Etheldo (iTunes).

I love how their set started with harmonized vocals really getting the crowd to sing along to new hits like “Undercover” and “Lost in L.A.”. Ocelot Robot is kind of a throwback band and unlike many of the new bands coming out in that you know your going to get a kick ass show seeing the quartet of drummer, guitarist, bassist and lead vocalist. However they jam out, are super fun to watch and even did an unexpected rocking cover of Rihanna‘s “Stay”, which everybody seemed to enjoy.

Look out for an upcoming music video from the band but until then, stream Etheldo below. My favorite songs are “Back To Buffalo”, “Undercover”, Lost In L.A.” and “Black Mini Skirt”. Stream and DOWNLOAD below.

May 10th, 2012 by | Music Video, Pop, Rock |

Here’s the latest single from four-piece Swedish pop band, Frantic Sunday called “Things We Do”. They got a fun upbeat pop-rock sound which I really dig and think most of you will enjoy as well.

Telegram – Soldier On *Coldplay/Killers sound

July 12th, 2011 by | Pop, Rock |

Shout out to Talitha at Hungry Mind Entertainment for letting me know about Telegram, a group that she told me sounds like a mix between Coldplay and The Killers. With “Soldier On” I feel that is an excellent comparison. Listen for yourself and let me know if you want more from these Los Angeles Pop/Rockers.

Featuring B.o.B *new J. Cole & The Script

January 23rd, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, R&B, Remix |

Whenever B.o.B is on a song, he kills it and turns the song into gold. Ok maybe that’s an overstatement but Bobby Ray is a talented hip-hop/R&B artist that, when featured on a song, usually makes the song better.

Below are three examples.
The Script – Walk Away Remix Ft B.o.B (right-click to download)
Passing Me By (ft. B.o.B.) – J. Cole
Lloyd Ft. B.o.B & Rock City – Lay It Down (Remix)

If your a big fan of The Script, their latest album, Science & Faith, came out last tuesday and is available on iTunes.

Introducing Be Like Pablo *the next Weezer

January 13th, 2011 by | Music Video, Pop, Rock |

I forgot how I stumbled on Be Like Pablo but while listening to their single “Julianne” I kept thinking, this sounds like a younger Weezer, which is funny because on the Scottish band’s facebook, one of their influences is old Weezer.

Hopefully I’m not the only one who hopes the band came up with the name from their appreciation for Pablo Sanchez from the Backyard Sports series. Either way, Be Like Pablo is a young up-and-coming rock/pop band that you should all know about.

Hidden Gem: The Holidays

December 22nd, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Electropop, Hidden Gem, Pop, Rock |

Most people love the holidays, so why not enjoy a band called The Holidays. Shouts to Indie Shuffle on finding The Holidays, an indie pop/rock band from Australia.

The Holidays debut album, Post Paradise, was released in Australia in September 2010 and received many positive reviews from the Oceanic music media. The Holidays have a relaxed flow in their tracks and remind me a little of Vampire Weekend and The Police.

Below are two of my favorites off Post Paradise, which you can purchase off their myspace.

Hidden Gem: The Dance Party

December 14th, 2010 by | Hidden Gem, Pop, Rock |

The band’s name is pretty much how their music sounds. Above is the music video for “Sasha Don’t Sleep”, one of the big reasons this band is one to watch out for.

They create a dance party with their party rock/power pop music. The Dance Party hails from DC and has put out a couple albums in 2007 (Friction! Friction! Friction!) and 2010 (Touch, purchase).

Below are a couple of their best tracks.

Cisco Adler and the Pigeons – “Body Language” x “Fly Out The Window”

September 24th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Pop, Rock |
I don’t think Cisco Adler will become a big superstar with tons of radio hits. But I think he’s a good producer who creates some catchy chill songs. Not radio hits, but relaxing care-free songs.
Above is a video for “Body Language” which is a part of Cisco Adler and The Pigeons demo mix:
This is just a few demos thrown together so people can sing along at the Pigeons first show on Aug. 28th at the ROXY Theater as part of the Sunset Strip Music Fest. Hope you enjoy. We are all Pigeons!

As a bonus, here’s a favorite of mine by Cisco Adler and The Pigeons. Listen and download “Fly Out The Window”.

2AM Club – What Did You Think Was Going To Happen (debut album)

September 21st, 2010 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Alternative/Indie, Electropop, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Rock |

Pop/Rock band 2AM Club has released their debut album today, What Did You Think Was Going To Happen. They are a great band, and it shows as they have been touring with Mike Posner for a while. They have really catchy hooks, have a hip-pop kind of feel as the verses are a little hip-hop, while the chorus’ always have catchy hooks that sound more pop and rock than hip-hop.

Listen and download a couple of my favorites from the album and below is a link to buy the album on iTunes.  2AM Club – Nobody’s in Love by 2amclub
