Hidden Gem: BEDROC

May 14th, 2012 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap, Mixtape Monday |

BEDROC is a hip-hop group out of Rochester, NY. I was introduced to their music through BenniB‘s manager and after hearing “iParty” featuring BenniB, I downloaded their last mixtape, Bored of Eductation and realized this is a legit hip-hop group to follow!

Listen and download Bored of Education. My four favorites include “Take Me Home Tonight”, “iParty”, “Summer Girl”, and “Time Of Your Life”.

If you like what you hear above, follow BEDROC on facebook and twitter.

April 19th, 2012 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Hip-Hop/Rap |

The Verbal Surgeon is coming out of Western Massachusetts and brings us the old school feel that we really dig. He started writing music when he was just 15 years old, writing everything on his Sidekick ID. He currently resides in Rochester, New York, working on two projects; one will be solo project that will drop this Spring/Summer, and the other will be with his dude Tugboat. Here’s “What’s Love”.

Check out my Q&A with him below, guaranteed you’ll love his flow. (more…)

Joywave – True Grit *synth-pop single

February 25th, 2012 by | Ambient, synthpop |

After the success of their 77777 mixtape and subsequent vinyl single last year, Joywave is back with their debut release: Koda Vista. The seven-song EP will be released digitally in March but to hold you over, Joywave has released the first single off it, “True Grit”. “True Grit” has a darker sounding, atmospheric pop track that really reminds me of a song out of the 80’s pop scene. It showcases the band’s penchant for addictive songwriting; it’s a synth laden jam that builds around Daniel Armbruster’s arresting vocals.

Listen and download Joywave‘s “True Grit”.
