Hotline Comic-Con is an event based on the popular indie video-game, “Hotline Miami.” The event will be in the midst of San Diego Comic-Con International, starting at 8:30 at 1401 E St. San Diego, CA, 92101 on Friday, July 19th 2013. Sponsored by Sapporo and Nerd Reactor, guests are invited to enjoy beverages while they indulge in live dance music provided by our special guests. Hotline Comic-Con is ages 21+ with an admission price of $15. Tickets can be purchased at:

Originally released in the Fall of 2012 by Dennaton Games for PC, “Hotline Miami” was inspired by the 80s aesthetic movie, “Drive.” “Hotline Miami” is now out for Mac, PS3 and PSVita. The game and its accompanying soundtrack has been highly reviewed within the video game community with praise from non-gamers, as well.

Australians Miami Horror DJs (of the band Miami Horror) will be spinning their dance-pop jams at the event as headliner. Miami Horror is known for their 80′s-influenced dance music and single collaborations with artists such as Kimbra and Alan Palomo of Neon Indian.Watch videos to my two favorite Miami Horror songs below. Watch: Vokab Kompany – Don’t Owe You

December 10th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Electropop, Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

Our favorite hip-hop group from San Diego, Vokab Kompany, has released, “Don’t Owe You” their latest single and video from their upcoming collaboration album with Crush Effect. The album, titled VKCE, drops December 18 and I can’t wait for it. If the previous collaborations with VK and CE are any indication what’s to come between these two exciting up-and-coming acts, then this will be a must-listen album!

Listen to “Don’t Owe You” below.

Hyena – Wander (ft. Dave Keuning from The Killers)

July 25th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Electropop, synthpop |

We got a new Hyena song that slipped through about a month ago. However very few other blogs have gotten behind this, besides one of our favorites, Earmilk.

“Wander” is another indie electro-pop track that just weaves together so well. San Diego indie-dance duo Hyena get lead guitarist and backup vocalist to The Killers, Dave Keuning, to lend a hand on the track, which only enhances the production quality.

Stream and download “Wander” below.

Hidden Gem: Hyena *sounds like Cut Copy, Phoenix!

January 10th, 2012 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Alternative/Indie, Dance, Electronic Tuesday, Hidden Gem |

We saw duo perform at the end of 2011 and I immediately knew this is a legit, must-follow music group. They are called Hyena, based out of San Diego, California and with tons of energy live and excellent production in many of their songs.

I’m so happy I asked their videographer for their latest CD or I might not have gotten into this group as I am now. Their sound can be described as indie electronic and draw comparisons to a more lo-fi Phoenix or Cut Copy. Below stream their latest project, We See You, a MUST-DOWNLOAD.

Below you will find some stuff I pulled from Hyena‘s bio that best describes their sound.

Crush Effect (featuring Vokab Kompany) – “Burn It Down” and “Loud Enough”

August 16th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Dubstep, Hip-Hop/Rap |

Vokab Kompany recently sent us over two new tracks they’ve done with Crush Effect. “Burn It Down” and “Loud Enough” have a much different sound than what we are used to hearing out of Vokab Kompany. They’ve taken alternative hip-hop and blended it in with the ever popular dubstep to create a solid sound. This group is extremely versatile and teaming up with Crush Effect really shows it. I expect them to continue to grow from the success they have already accomplished in their native San Diego. Enjoy!

The Silent Comedy live at The Roxy

May 10th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Concert/Festival Review, Reviews, Rock |

Talk about talent. Saturday night I was fortunate enough to see Southern California indie rockers The Steelwells and The Silent Comedy at The Roxy Los Angeles. I knew and heard very little from each artist and left with my hands red from all the clapping I did, continually feeling so grateful to witness great performances from these artists who have easily become two of my favorite SoCal rock groups. Here’s my review on The Silent Comedy:

After hearing great things about The Silent Comedy from various people at the show, I had sort of high expectations. Well, The Silent Comedy with their saloon rock style, surpassed my expectations putting out a high energy rocking show with fans constantly dancing or singing along to almost all their tunes.

Again, this is a group you need to see live to appreciate, especially as their set was much longer than I expected, constantly entertaining the crowd with their upbeat energy. Here’s my 3 favorites including a recent track they released, “Victory”.
The Silent Comedy – Bartholomew
The Silent Comedy – Footnotes
The Silent Comedy – Victory
If you like the above songs, I recommend checking out The Silent Comedy‘s album, Common Faults, and following them on facebook and twitter.

Vokab Kompany – Quit Sleep (exclusive album preview) + interview

April 21st, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap |

I personally first heard Vokab Kopmany back in the fall of 2010 when I saw them rock the crowd in the last 10 minutes of their set before Hoodie Allen came on stage. I really got drawn into the alternative hip-hop band feel to them with electronica influences as well. I have since become solid fan’s their genre-blending sound.

Recently they hit us up with their upcoming album, Quit Sleep, which drops tomorrow. Here’s 2 of my favorites off it and read more to see a Q&A interview I did with Robbie of Vokab Kompany.

Chris Young Value Pack 2: Cream & Sugar mixtape preview

January 18th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Chris Young recently dropped a few songs off his upcoming mixtape, Value Pack 2: Cream & Sugar. You can really see in these tracks how much he has matured as an artist. He is becoming much more versatile with his sound and heading into more of a party direction while still adding in the laid-back hip-hop he always does so well.

Below are three songs Chris Young has released so far. Listen and download below. Enjoy!

G-Eazy – Right Now

January 12th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

San Diego native G-Eazy hit us up with his latest track featuring Team Robot, “Right Now”. I don’t think “Right Now” is a better track than “Waspy” or “Good For Great” but still a solid track from rapper G-Eazy. I would love to hear this song as I am going up an elavator/stairs to an awesome party.
