K. Rudd ft. SomeWhere Else – Mario Kart *alternative hop

March 9th, 2012 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

Up-and-coming LA rapper K. Rudd and his Los Angeles confidants, SomeWhere Else, are delivering their first official release together, “Mario Kart”. Like the song title suggests, “Mario Kart” plays off the nostalgia of one of the most next level video games of the 90’s, sampling familiar sounds and excerpts from the game laying them on a tripped out bass packed production that is beginning to shape the sound coming from these group of innovators. K. Rudd will be releasing his debut mixtape, W.I.M.I (When Innovator Met Impoviser) on 4/20 of this year alongside his first music video.

Personally everything in this song just seems kind of lazy yet it’s different and I enjoy the fact they  are biting off one of the best video games from the 90’s.

Video: SomeWhere Else – Bunkers *alternative hip-hop

January 29th, 2012 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

I think SomeWhere Else is onto a new music movement or just trying to offer something safer and more alternative hip-hop vibe than what’s coming from Odd Future. Either way, I think I dig this song but it definitely is not in my favorites from the hip-hop band with 3 MCs and a guitarist.

However for a debut video from the LA hip-hop band, I think they really jumped onto the scene with quality production. According to P&P, the group is getting ready to release the upcoming project The SWEM (The SomeWhere Else Manifesto).

SomeWhere Else – Hypocrite

August 1st, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

One of my favorite up-and-coming Los Angeles hip-hop bands, SomeWhere Else, is back with a new song after a fairly long hiatus of new music from them. Here’s what their management told me about them:

Finding a balance between their orchestral take on hip-hop while still producing hard hitting tracks, SomeWhere Else gives fans a whole new sound for them to make moves to this summer. The world can expect an out-pour of new music from SomeWhere Else over the coming weeks leading to the release of their next highly anticipated project, The Swem.

Below is “Hypocrite”, which has some laid back but rocking instrumentals, dope beat and the rapping is solid as usual. I think they got potential and as their sound continues to develop, so will the quality of their music. Trust me they will get better, I heard a couple other tracks from them already am excited for the future sound of SomeWhere Else.

SomeWhere Else – Skeptic

SomeWhere Else is a hip-hop band with three MC’s and a guitarist. Each of the MC’s have a fairly distinct sound over some awesome rock instrumentals. “Skeptic” is one of my top 5 favorite tracks from them. As SomeWhere Else keeps working on tracks, I see them better developing their sound and more clearly defining this hip-hop/rock sound they bring.

Shout out to Jono the guitarist for sending me this.

SomeWhere Else – “Strictly Invitation” (featuring BrandUn DeShay)

February 1st, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap |

L.A based hip-hop group SomeWhere Else has just released it’s newest track. It’s called “Strictly Invitation” (featuring BrandUn DeShay) and it’s a good one. They change up their style a little bit, adding in a more laid-back feel in this one. Enjoy!

November 12th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

Los Angeles-based hip-hop/rock/R&B group SomeWhere Else just released their newest track “Cloud Hoppers”. I got a chance to interview these guys last month and they are quite talented not to mention they happened to go to the same high school as me.

Anyway I am a huge fan of this up-and-coming group and love how they mix genres in all their songs and once again they keep impressing me with their music. Enjoy!

Prospect of the Week: SomeWhere Else

Pigeons and Planes, you have once again found more amazing up-and-coming music. Based out of the City of Angels, SomeWhere Else won the 2008 International Battle of the Bands with a group comprised of three MC’s and a guitarist. They are another genre mixing group who focuses mostly on hip-hop & rock but bring quite a unique sound into the shifting style the music industry is evolving towards.

SomeWhere Else has more songs here and check out their facebook page! Below download their latest album, Master Basement, it’s free!
