An Incredible Weekend at Coachella (Day 1: Friday)

April 16th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Concert/Festival Review, Electronic Dance Music |

Having witnessed all the craziness of Coachella this past weekend, I figured I’d share it all with everyone (especially the people who are going next week, you are in for quite a treat). It was impossible to see everyone I wanted to live and the weather was not as good the whole weekend as I would have liked it to be. However, that did not stop me from seeing some great live performances. Starting today and up until Wednesday, I will share with you the performances I saw each day and let you all know what to expect if you are going this coming weekend.

Hidden Gem: Sex Ray Vision *Electro/House with vocals!

July 10th, 2011 by | Electro, Electropop, House, Mashup, Remix |

Sex Ray Vision has always been and will always be, with a singular purpose: to make your body move.

Got the above line off Sex Ray Vision‘s facebook, which I guarantee will have over 10,000 maybe even 20,000 likes by the end of the year. I love when you discover an artist and immediately you are a huge fan; that’s how I feel with Sex Ray Vision, this Stanford, California duo is that talented with their electro/house bangers.

Sex Ray Vision, which includes DJ/producer Ravi Parikh and singer/songwriter Brian Yoo, started making mashups about five months ago, then put out remixes about four months ago and recently (within the last month) have started releasing originals. You can find all their music on soundcloud but to save you some time, here’s my five recent favorites from this up-and-coming duo.

Remix battle: “Seven Nation Army” vs “You Can Dance”

May 26th, 2011 by | Dance, Mashup, Remix |

Trying something new here. Two songs, two remixes per song. Time to decide which is the best?

First we got The White Stripes song, “Seven Nation Army” which The Glitch Mob remix and Jerry Rekonius used in a mashup/remix also using some Swedish House Mafia which always brings the party. The Glitch Mob remix sounds possessed, like the “Seven Nation Army” has been taken to hell.
Seven Nation Army (The Glitch Mob Remix)
One Nation Army (Jerry Rekonius Bootleg)
Next we got two different remixes to “You Can Dance” by Chilly Gonzales. First is by Walter Sobcek, which has a smooth relaxing synth feel. Then we got Fare Soldi Gonzobot who keeps the strong piano work by Chilly in the song, which is something I truly enjoy about the song and also Gonzo throws in some different vocals in. 2nd remix sounds like if the people partying to “You Can Dance” decided on working together to create a fun remix with some of their own vocals.

Mashup Monday: Global Mashup Crew

January 31st, 2011 by | Mashup, Mashup Monday |

A month late but worth your wait! A collective of mashup artists called the Global Mashup Crew dropped a 10-track mixtape near the end of 2010 called Global Mashup Crew Biggest Hits 2010 (Download). The mixtape is worth downloading; honestly I kept around 7 of the mashups. Below are a few of my favorites that should convince you on downloading it plus the tracklisting.
Ha! Yes – I Know (Two Door Cinema Club VS Drake)
Big Z Remixes – Animal (Drake VS Neon Trees VS T.I.)
Doubleyou – Luda’s Magnetic Mafia (Ludacris VS Magnetic Man VS Swedish House Mafia)

3 Awesome covers with 3 different sounds

October 25th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie |

One cover is straight 80’s pop, and immediately you might be thinking Madonna… well you’re right. Starf*cker covers Madonna’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” to make for an indie pop song I enjoy more than the original (maybe because I’m more comfortable singing along to this one).

Starf*cker – Girls Just Want To Have Fun

The next song covers house group Sweedish House Mafia’s “One” by indie pop group Foals.

Foals – One (Swedish House Mafia Cover)

Next Ben l-Oncle Soul takes on The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” to make for a jazz/soul type of feel to it.

Whatever reservations you have for the original versions of these three song, leave them behind for these interesting covers.

Before The Bigs Summer ’10 Mix: Best You Never Heard

September 3rd, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Daily Mix, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, Mashup, Pop, R&B, Remix, Rock |

The mix is 25 songs released this summer (May-August), by artists who haven’t released a debut album yet. The only exception is “All Summer” by Kid Cudi, Best Coast and Vampire Weekend because that’s one of the best songs released this summer.

Without further ado, enjoy Before The Bigs Summer ’10 Mix: Best You Never Heard (download links below):
