Last Wednesday, I experienced the funky sounds of Go Go Bizkitt! and The Phantom’s Revenge at The Central SAPC in Santa Monica, CA. Both DJs were awesome with Go Go Bizkitt spinning that funky disco house vibes all night while The Phantom’s Revenge played mostly disco house with some trap music and some electro vibes. One of my favorite parts of this dance party show was hearing both of the acts remix Daft Punk.
Stream some of my favorite songs from the two rising DJs below.
Earlier this week, Portland based Adventure Gallery rocked the night at the renowned, The Central Social Aid and Pleasure Club in Santa Monica.
They have an 80’s rock/pop feel mixed with a modern day electro pop sound. Perfect for the people with 80’s nostalgia looking for a new and fresh sound. This group is small now but has the makings to do some big things down the road. It will be interesting to see how they progress.
Enjoy some of the tracks they performed that night below.
Last weekend, DJ PZB once again had a great performance at The Central SAPC in Santa Monica. In his third installment of PZB & Friends, he rocked a packed house with lots of energy and intensity. His tunes were awesome as usual, making this Saturday night even more special.
The Central is always a great venue for music with an awesome atmosphere. PZB always makes it better. His music will surly gain more popularity in the near future. If you missed last Saturday’s show, your in luck as PZB & Friends Present: gLAdiator with Das Tapes, Bear Fight! and Bastille. This is a must-attend show if you like to dance and don’t want over-priced entrance fees for nightclubs in Hollywood that night, especially since gLAdiator is a DJ duo you wouldn’t find at a less expensive venue like The Central. For more info on the next PZB & Friends, visit the facebook event page.
The next upcoming indie dance band you need to follow is Oregon indie dance rock band Adventure Galley. I first heard “Weekend Lovers” sometime over the summer but somehow got lost in the shuffle of dance music that I love moving to.
However @BenOprstu contacted me about Adventure Galley doing a show at my favorite Santa Monica music venue next Monday. I watched the “Weekend Lovers” video and realized why I dig their upbeat electro-synth indie rock vibes so he asked me if @BeforeBigs wanted to co-produce the show with From The Hip LA. After watching “Weekend Lovers” and listening to “Marooned” and “Addict”, I knew this was a special band making music they like to call Glow Wave.
Who is Kids & Explosions? K & E is Josh Raskin, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker (I Met the Walrus) turned mash-up artist. His LP Shit Computer offers a collection of some of Raskin’s own favorite tracks, which are reinterpreted and rearranged into glitchy and nostalgia-filled songs (this is his signature strategy). Genres are mixed and numerous samples of various songs turn hybrid in Shit Computer, revealing Raskin’s dexterity in transforming looped layers into tracks that sound fresh and new. Just listen to “Everything”, where he whisks a little of Eminem‘s “Lose It” with Slash’s guitar salute in the GNR classic “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Stream & download Shit Computer below.

Last Friday, I attended my favorite music venue in Santa Monica, The Central SAPC, for a dj set from mashup duo, The Hood Internet. However, only 1 member of The Hood Internet spun, STV SLV as I experience when I saw them last time as well.
Even with 1 dude spinning, Hood Internet took over the event, with people cramming in the main room of the venue to dance to their indie-electronic/hip-hop mashups. Hood Internet spun for over an hour and he didn’t just press play like I saw White Panda, Steve Aoki and many other DJs do.
Hood Internet also had rapper Kenan Bell come on stage for an original track they worked on together so it was nice to see that Hood Internet has diversified their music with remixes and originals added to the live set with the mashups.
My 3 favorites from the night although I love all their mashups live, truly a fun dance party!
This Friday, mashup-maestro’s The Hood Internet are playing at The Central SAPC 8/3. These guys were a part of the first wave of mash up djs along with Girl Talk and Super Mash Bros. They’ve released over 500 mixes, had millions of downloads and have played at festivals Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, SXSW, etc.
These guys are on their west-coast tour with performers Psalm One who sounds like Lauryn Hill but much more badass and Tanya Morgan, a rapping duo that’s gotten a lot of attention from Billboard, LA Times, Spin and more. Show details here.
To win tickets, a Hood Internet CD and a Hood Internet shirt, e-mail email@example.com with your favorite Hood Internet mashup, your name, shirt size and mailing address, because the merchandise will be shipped! That’s all it takes to snag tickets to a MUST-SEE show and get some Hood Internet swag. Winner will be contacted by Thursday.
