Review: JR JR @ The Echo *incredible!!!

May 30th, 2017 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Electronic Rock, Electropop, Pop, synthpop |

Last Thursday I saw JR JR at The Echo in Echo Park, Los Angeles. They were the best band I’ve ever seen perform at that venue and one of the best performances I’ve seen this year. They performed for over an hour and it felt like it was never going to end as they played many tracks they haven’t released yet as well as personal favorites like “Gone”, 2017 release “Same Dark Places”, “Simple Girl”, “If You Didn’t See Me”, “As Time Goes” and “We Almost Lost Detroit”. I loved every song they performed and just wish I knew the songs they haven’t released yet as I loved all of those too. They had tons of energy, good banter in between songs and the live looping the lead singer did to start each song really created such a beautiful sound. You can tell these guys are influenced by The Beatles, punk rock

Stream the songs I mentioned above and many more as you deserve to listen to all of JR JR to get an idea how good they are.

Review: Kero Kero Bonito and Skylar Spence live at The Echo

October 28th, 2015 by | Album/Mixtape/EP Review, Alternative/Indie, Electropop, synthpop |

Last Thursday, I was in for a wild ride of alternative music as alternative dance pop trio Kero Kero Bonito and indie alternative pop band Skylar Spence performed at The Echo in Los Angeles. Even though the show started late and I couldn’t catch all of Skylar Spence’s set because of work the next morning, I still had a great time and discovered a new band I hadn’t heard before, Kero Kero Bonito.

Review: Echo Park Rising *Harriet Brown, Happyness, Survive

August 17th, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Electropop, R&B, synthpop |

Last weekend I attended Echo Park Rising for a few hours and caught acts that were mostly forgettable except for Harriet Brown, an Asian male with a bowl cut who might be the 2nd coming of Prince! Here’s my review of the acts I saw below.

Review: Milo Greene at The Echo

May 3rd, 2015 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Rock |

In late April I caught the fantastic energetic Los Angeles indie folk rock band, Milo Greene, who played many songs from their new album while also wowing the crowd with old favorite, “1957”.

Headliner Milo Greene entranced the crowd with their complex brand of indie folk rock, replete with four-part harmonies and gorgeous male and female vocals.

My favorite songs included “On The Fence”, “1957” and “Lie To Me”.

Review: De Lux at The Echo *sold out post-punk dance party

May 3rd, 2014 by | Concert/Festival Review, Dance, Rock |

A few weeks ago I saw post-punk dance band De Lux perform live at Los Angeles venue, The Echo. This Los Angeles-based band, signed to Innovative Leisure, is poised to breakout once they start touring more and open for a similar band like !!! (chk chk chk), Rapture, and Talking Heads. (more…)

Review: Culture Collide Festival (Miami Horror, Mystery Skulls, Gemini Club, Plastic Plates, Maya Vik, and Ghost Wave)

October 15th, 2013 by | Concert/Festival Review |

Late last week I caught Filter Magazine’s 4th Annual Culture Collide Festival. I went to days one and two of the three day festival and thoroughly enjoyed most of the acts I saw, although this years lineup didn’t have the same sexiness that previous lineups had, although Maya Vik is one sexy lead singer/guitarist! Read more below for reviews on the acts I enjoyed, which included: Maya VikGhost WavePlastic PlatesMiami Horror (DJ Set + live band), Gemini Club and Mystery Skulls.

I was going to write reviews of every band I saw but I didn’t enjoy every band and feel it’s better to not saying anything at all on them if I have nothing good to say.

Review: Free Energy at The Echo *best rock band I’ve ever seen for free!

October 2nd, 2013 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Rock |

This past Monday I saw the final night of Philly rock band Free Energy‘s residency at The Echo in Los Angeles. There wasn’t a single song I didn’t like in their set and I’ve fallen in love with how much this band rocks out and how much energy lead singer Scott Wells and the band have. (more…)

Review: Star Slinger live at The Echo

October 2nd, 2012 by | Concert/Festival Review, Electronic Dance Music |

Last Friday night I won tickets to see UK beatsmith Star Slinger at The Echo courtesy of Thrillcall. His live sets occupy some interesting area between UK electronic and American hip-hop, where his own intricate productions sounded right at home alongside Juicy J’s “Who Da Neighbors”. His set consisted of a slew of his intricate remixes including his “We Found Love” Rhianna remix and his Hundred Waters “Thistle” remix as well as his own original productions, “Chain Dumbin” with a verse from Juicy J and his latest release “Ladies In The Back” featuring Teki Latex.

I highly recommend seeing Star Slinger live as he got all the hipster kids at The Echo dancing.

Stream his three latest releases below.
