RDGLDGRN (formerly The Five One) – I Love Lamp

October 20th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video, Pop, Rock |

So unfortunately DMV alternative/hip-hop band The Five One broke up as BLUE left the band to pursue a solo career. That didn’t stop the other members from continuing to make awesome music so they formed RDGLDGRN (pronounced Red Gold & Green). Recently RDGLDGRN released the music video and mp3 to their first single, “I Love Lamp”.

RDGLDGRN – I Love Lamp

“I Love Lamp” is directed, written, produced, and performed by the band RDGLDGRN and is off their upcoming EP titled When In Rome. We had the opportunity to sit in on one of their last studio sessions when they visited LA and I got to hear several of their other new tracks, which are all banging and feature a new sound that is more upbeat with much higher quality production value.

Personally I think this is the perfect song to release to start a new path for this band. The instrumentals are so catchy and come together so well, its obvious they took more time and passion in the production of “I Love Lamp”.

Update: The Five One – Sorry (Music Video+mp3)

July 17th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Music Video |

New music from The Five One! I am super excited to see the latest song release from The Five One drop in the inbox today.”Sorry” is a bit repetitive but you feel the emotion from how this song plays out.

The Five One – “Sorry”
By the time “Sorry” gets to the chorus where they are singing “How Could You Not Be Sorry” is when the song really picks up with it’s alternative hip-pop style. The Five One continues to stand out from many other alternative/indie hip-hop/pop bands out there. Overall this isn’t my favorite from them, but still has some qualities I really enjoy.

The Five One – Monsters Mutants Vampires *video+mp3

May 17th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

We haven’t heard from The Five One in a while, however recently they dropped  a  new song, “Monsters Mutants Vampires”, which is the first single off their forthcoming album, RED BLUE GREEN GOLD. This song will also be featured in their upcoming EP, COLORlife, which will be released in the first week of June.

In their newest song, The Five One make sure to sound fairly different than their previous songs like “Closing Time“, “Mandatory” and “Pasa de Kaka“. I love about that this alternative/hip-hop band has such a wide range, diverse sound they produce. This song is a bit more darker and also this is one of the most interesting music videos, as the band members dressed like different typical horror movie characters.

The Five One – “Closing Time” (Music Video)

February 14th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video, Remix |

[youtube vyLLrZJ2edA]

Late last month The Five One dropped a cover and remix of the 1990’s hit “Closing Time” by Semisonic. Now, the music video is available for all to see. In the visuals which I’ll let the group explain:

“This Video takes place mostly in the beautiful city of Paris. When The Five One found out that they were going to be spending a little time in Europe, they took the camera along, got together with some friends in the city, and let Jacque le BLUE (BLUE’s Alter Ego) run through the streets of Paris, France to find his mortal enemy VERT Cousteau.”

The Five One – Closing Time (remix)

January 31st, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

“Closing Time” originally came out in March 1998 by a rock band called Semisonic. It was a Grammy Award nominee for Best Rock Song in 1999. This song is still popular to this day and up-and-coming alternative hip-hop group, The Five One just dropped a cool remix of it. They changed up the beat a little bit, adding in a couple rap verses while keeping the same feeling of the original track in it. This is definitely a track worth checking out. Enjoy!

The Five One – Never Been (Wiz Khalifa cover)

January 17th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Music Video |

We generally don’t post many cover’s on here unless the cover becomes something different than the original. The Five One take Wiz’ “Never Been” and give it a nice lounge feel.

The song sort of reminds me of the cover’s by Ben l’Oncle Soul’s cover of “Seven Nation Army“. The Five One create a relaxing cover and I can’t wait for more new material from the up-and-coming DMV-area alternative hip-hop band.

The Five One – Pasa de Kaka

October 25th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap |

Our boys from the DMV area, The Five One, released a new song today, “Pasa de Kaka”. I feel this eclectic genre-blending group is getting better and better.

I can’t wait to hear their upcoming album, which according to GOLD from The Five One, should be coming out around Februrary 2011. However, since The Five One, don’t have the benefits of a major label backing them, they need help putting out their album; click here to help out.

Vote for The Five One – “Mandatory” Music Video on MTVU The Freshmen

October 20th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

This video is one of five this week to compete in the “MTVU The Freshmen” contest for the best music video by a music up-and-comer. Not only is the song “Mandatory” by alternative rock/hip-hop group The Five One a great laid-back song to listen to, the music video is awesome as well. Plus we have worked with them exclusively in the past by interviewing them on our radio show and constantly talking on the phone about ways to promote their music on a larger scale.

Please do us and especially The Five One a huge favor and vote for their music video “Mandatory” here. It takes two seconds and I am sure you will enjoy it! Polls close on Friday Afternoon so check back throughout the week.
