Music. Fashion. Collaboration. The Future of NOW.

January 7th, 2012 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Electro, Electronic Rock, Electropop, Guest Mix, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

So I decided to create a rather unconventional music post today. Get ready to be INSPIRED.

I’ve recently helped some friends of mine launch a clothing line called the  ADAMO Collection. The whole idea behind this company is to provide a platform for rebelliously creative young people to pursue their passions, collaborate with each other, and express themselves freely. As a forward thinking company centered on passion and creativity, we look forward to working with bands, DJs, music blogs, etc!

Needless to say, launching a clothing line sure isn’t easy and 18 hour workdays are not unheard of. In order to stay sane and keep inspiration flowing, we blast music on our sick sound system 24/7. I thought it’d be neat to share some of these tunes with you guys and so I’ve compiled a playlist of some of our most listened to tracks on spotify. I’ve included everything from electronica/dubstep artists like Pendulum, Doctor P, Flux Pavilion, Emancipator, The Glitch Mob, Benny Benassi, and Steve Aoki, to more indie/alternative tracks from bands like The Naked and Famous, The Civil Wars, and M83. I also threw in some Tinie Tempah, Coldplay, and Claude Debussy. I think my favorite track has gotta be Pendulum’s The Island ( Dusk til Dawn remix). SOOO GOOD. Great songs REMIXED pt.1 *Passion Pit, Matt & Kim, Foster the People and more!

May 14th, 2011 by | Remix |

I love the original to the above video and I love the remix even more, already watching it at least 8-10 times.

Anyways, best way to help lessen the many remixes/mashups I need to blog about, here’s five songs I really love that have been remixed. In some cases the original is better but other cases, the remix does add something special the original might lack. This is pt. 1 because all these remixes are kind of old and should have been blogged about at least 2 months ago.

First we got my all-time favorite Empire of the Sun track, “Walking on a Dream”, remixed by Kids At The Bar. Love how the hand-clap they throw in eventually get’s way more electronic and complex as the song progresses.
Empire of the Sun – Walking On A Dream (Kids At The Bar Remix)
Next Borgore remixes Passion Pit’s “Sleepyhead”, slowing the pace down a bit and overall making for a chill remix with cool electro and some subtle dubstep that isn’t overbearing to the beauty of Passion Pit‘s sound… sorry I love Passion Pit so much, somebody take me to see them live.
Passion Pit – Sleepyhead (Borgore Remix)
Foster the People came out with “Pumped Up Kicks” a long time ago yet the song suddenly gets mainstream radio play this year. Either way, MNDR decided to do a remix on it, adding some cool 80’s type instrumentals and keeping the vocals fairly intact for a solid remix.
Foster the People – Pumped Up Kicks (MNDR Remix)
I know remixes of Matt & Kim have gotten really old, and maybe the remixes continue to come out because all of us are dying to hear new music from them now if we haven’t seen them live. Either way, well done remix by Rusty Lazer & JJ Marshall who have some Big Freedia rapping too. The song gets taken into a different direction and the rapping almost seems like it’s not needed, but this is pretty cool to play in a dance/club atmosphere where your happy it keeps you moving.
Matt & Kim – Cameras (ft. Big Freedia)(Rusty Lazer & JJ Marshall remix)
One of my favorite groups from New Zealand, The Naked & Famous put out a wonderful track in 2010, “Young Blood” which Chiddy Bang remixed and rapped on (amazing!) and a few months back, Dave Sitek, guitarist in indie rock band, TV On The Radio, remixed “Young Blood”. I have a feeling he put some of his own guitar work on the remix, which is a great addition to the original and some electronic beats hear and there. Overall I like how Dave Sitek didn’t take hardly anything out of the original.

This is already one of my favorites by Chiddy Bang, I think if they retired today, they would have an awesome “best of Chiddy Bang” album to make lots of money off of.

Chiddy Bang: “Young Blood” remix + “Bad Boy” off The Preview

September 30th, 2010 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Remix |
I love The Naked & Famous single “Young Blood”, and I love Chiddy Bang. So when I heard a few weeks ago that Xaphoon Jones would remix the song with Chiddy on the mic, I got super excited. I even thought of a word Neil Patrick Harris says in the American sitcom How I Met Your Mother that begins with a “L” and ends in “dary”. Don’t want to jinx it though.

Well Chiddy Bang performed that song in New Zealand (where The Naked & Famous are from) and the video above is of the performance, including Chiddy doing a stage dive.

I couldn’t do a CB post without giving you a song from The Preview, CB’s upcoming EP dropping October 12 in the US. Here’s “Bad Boy”, which samples Darwin Deez’s “Bad Day” and features Theodore Grams on the CB version; it’s an interesting blend of electro/hip-hop/rock. Bang – “Bad Day” (Feat. Theodore Grams and Darwin Deez)

In other news, Xaphoon Jones and Chiddy are working on re-mixing The Naked & Famous single, “Young Blood”. This is a great electro-pop song by the New Zealand band and is featured on our end of summer ’10 mix: “Best You Never Heard”. Also Chiddy Bang is naming their next mixtape Peanut Butter N’ Swelly, no word on the release date.

Mashup Monday: Labor Day!

September 6th, 2010 by | Mashup, Mashup Monday, Remix |

Happy Labor Day!
I really like the electro-pop band The Naked & Famous. Today I bring you a couple mashups/remixes using thier song “Young Blood”. We featured the original song on our End of Summer ’10 Mix.

The first mashup by The White Panda, mashes T.I.’s “Big Shit Poppin” with The Naked & Famous’ “Young Blood” making for an awesome relaxing mashup with some cool hip-hop in it.  Young Bloods Poppin’ by whitepandamusic
The second song, more of a remix, is a Skeet Skeet mix. It’s longer than the original and DJ Skeet Skeet turns it into more of a dance song.  The Naked & Famous – Young Blood (Skeet Skeet’s MEGA Edit) by skeet skeet
Bonus: I couldn’t leave this off on Labor Day because it’s a relaxing song to listen to while your not working today. This is a Ballard remix to Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” featuring The Dap Kings, turning the song into more of a chill-hop song than the hard rock guitar riffs that accompany the original.  Jay-Z & The Dap Kings – 99 Problems (Prince of Ballard Remix) by Hypetrak
Enjoy your day off!

Before The Bigs Summer ’10 Mix: Best You Never Heard

September 3rd, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Daily Mix, Dance, Hip-Hop/Rap, Mashup, Pop, R&B, Remix, Rock |

The mix is 25 songs released this summer (May-August), by artists who haven’t released a debut album yet. The only exception is “All Summer” by Kid Cudi, Best Coast and Vampire Weekend because that’s one of the best songs released this summer.

Without further ado, enjoy Before The Bigs Summer ’10 Mix: Best You Never Heard (download links below):

Hidden Gem: The Naked and Famous

August 24th, 2010 by | Electro, Electropop, Hidden Gem, Miscellaneous, Pop, Rock |

Above is my favorite song by The Naked and Famous, an electro-pop/rock band from New Zealand who can be described as MGMT/Passion Pit but with female vocals. I really like MGMT and love Passion Pit and am loving this up-and-coming band who release their debut album, Passive Me, Aggressive You on September 6.
“Young Blood” has a similar tone as “Kids” by MGMT with a nice summer sound to it. Below I have included “Young Blood” and their second single off the debut album, “Punching in a Dream”.
