Hidden Gem: iLLiE *hip-hop/rock band!

May 31st, 2011 by | Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

I call iLLiE a future hip-hop super group because as a hip-hop band featuring five Los Angeles natives. I think this is a hip-hop group that has potential for success within a couple years, with talent that can translate to success comparable to a hip-hop group like Slaughterhouse. However iLLiE has more of a hip-hop/rock band production behind their music.

Since I love everything iLLiE has put out in 2011, I will include my 2 favorite original tracks and my 3 favorite remix/covers. Shout out to SomeWhere Else for telling me about these guys, musicians really give the greatest recommendations for other artists to check out besides themselves.

Top 2 originals:
iLLiE – On
iLLiE – 2033
Great songs right! Well if you want something more familiar, here’s 4 remix/covers iLLiE did on their latest mixtape, Deja Vu (DOWNLOAD), which is a must-download project!
iLLiE – I’m Going In (Lil Wayne cover/remix)
iLLiE – Start It Up (Lloyd Banks cover/remix)
iLLiE – Hell Of A Life (Kanye West cover/remix)
iLLiE – Allure (Jay-Z cover/remix)

Stereo Crowd – I Got It *Urban Alternative (MUST DL)

April 8th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video, Rock |

This is the song that should hype you up for your weekend, before you go out… get pumped because when you sing along to “I Got It” you gain a little swag. Here’s a blurb from their manager:

New York City’s Ambassadors of Urban Alternative. Stereo Crowd’s sound is a Black Eyed Peas style hip-hop combined with the amped-up flavor of The Black Keys, live band flexibility of the Roots, sprinkled with Soul and R&B. Known for collaborations and team building creativity.

(video) ¡MAYDAY! ft. Cee Lo Green, Mack Maine & Ghostwridah – Groundhog Day (Remix)

January 31st, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

I love this song, from the beginning with the unique vocals and great chorus from Cee Lo Green, to the rapping from Mack Maine, Ghostwridah and the members of ¡MAYDAY!, this song is a MUST DOWNLOAD.

I put their last mixtape, Lords of the Fly (Download), in our top 10 mixtapes of 2010 list and I really believe the Florida-based alternative hip-hop band is a group to watch in 2011.

Split Second – Illmerica (Party Rock Remix)

January 19th, 2011 by | Dance, Electro, Hip-Hop/Rap, House |

Boston alternative electronic hip-hop band Split Second is back with a special music saga, Skub Til Taget, which is Danish for Push The Roof. Here’s what Jared from Split Second said:

Each Wednesday for the next five weeks we will be releasing one song from the saga. “Illmerica” is the Episode Two of the saga, with Innocence (which we dropped awhile ago) being Episode One.The songs will consist of house/dubstep remixes. Meanwhile we’ll be working on the next full mixtape, which will have songs such as Blood Diamond on it, of original sounds which will be out shortly. We’re have a lot of new material so hope people are ready for it.

Wolfgang Gartner is the beat that is used in “Illmerica” that Split Second has done a swell job rapping over and mixing up a bit. Can’t wait for the next song in their saga.

The Five One – Never Been (Wiz Khalifa cover)

January 17th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Music Video |

We generally don’t post many cover’s on here unless the cover becomes something different than the original. The Five One take Wiz’ “Never Been” and give it a nice lounge feel.

The song sort of reminds me of the cover’s by Ben l’Oncle Soul’s cover of “Seven Nation Army“. The Five One create a relaxing cover and I can’t wait for more new material from the up-and-coming DMV-area alternative hip-hop band.

¡MAYDAY! – High and Lows ft. Ace Hood

January 16th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B |

One of my favorite hip-hop band’s of 2010, ¡MAYDAY! is building a strong reputation in the music industry with their rap/rock blend coupled with dope lyricism. It’s no wonder artists like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and now Ace Hood have collaborated with the Florida group.

“Highs and Lows” is a chill hip-hop jam with a good chorus. It’s hard not to enjoy a ¡MAYDAY! song and this song is a good example.

The White House Band – Sky High *interesting rap/rock jam

January 15th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

“Sky High” is the newest single from The White House Band, who have dope rock instrumentals to go along with some good rapping. I think The White House Band are improving and this is one of the better jams I have heard from them.

Already a big fan of Ground Up, I found another reason to love their music. This new track called “Parade” seen off their web series “The Vault” shows me how talented and hardworking this group is to produce great music. Enjoy!

Hidden Gem: Dean and Ravo

January 13th, 2011 by | Electropop, Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop |

Hip-Pop at it’s finest. I can’t say we came up with Hip-Pop but we have used it many times for some of our favorite artists we have posted about. Dean and Ravo is now among that list of our new favorite artists.

With a simple yet dope beat, “Walkin’ Around” (download) is a too-cool-for-summer song. For an up-and-coming alternative hip-hop duo, “Walkin’ Around” is an example of an artist putting together a dope original song. This is already one of my new favorite chill songs and I look forward to more from this New York City duo.
