Hidden Gem: iLLiE *hip-hop/rock band!

May 31st, 2011 by | Hidden Gem, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

I call iLLiE a future hip-hop super group because as a hip-hop band featuring five Los Angeles natives. I think this is a hip-hop group that has potential for success within a couple years, with talent that can translate to success comparable to a hip-hop group like Slaughterhouse. However iLLiE has more of a hip-hop/rock band production behind their music.

Since I love everything iLLiE has put out in 2011, I will include my 2 favorite original tracks and my 3 favorite remix/covers. Shout out to SomeWhere Else for telling me about these guys, musicians really give the greatest recommendations for other artists to check out besides themselves.

Top 2 originals:
iLLiE – On
iLLiE – 2033
Great songs right! Well if you want something more familiar, here’s 4 remix/covers iLLiE did on their latest mixtape, Deja Vu (DOWNLOAD), which is a must-download project!
iLLiE – I’m Going In (Lil Wayne cover/remix)
iLLiE – Start It Up (Lloyd Banks cover/remix)
iLLiE – Hell Of A Life (Kanye West cover/remix)
iLLiE – Allure (Jay-Z cover/remix)

Are you a fan of this hip-hop collective yet? If so, follow iLLiE on: facebook / twitter (more…)

Rich Kid Sound System – Talk About Us *alternative hip-pop

March 30th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Rock |

Rich Kid Sound System is finally out with a new track which has a slightly more pop feel with a stronger, catchy hook, dope rapping as usual and instrumentals that are off the hook in their newest track, “Talk About Us”.

This song will be off RKSS’ upcoming mixtape, Death Of A Frat Rapper, due out on 4/20. Nice mixtape title by the way!

Also if you’re in Orlando, RKSS will be performing Florida Music Festival on April 9th.

This Florida hip-hop/alternative rock band is only getting better! Follow them on twitter!

SomeWhere Else – Skeptic

March 24th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

SomeWhere Else is a hip-hop band with three MC’s and a guitarist. Each of the MC’s have a fairly distinct sound over some awesome rock instrumentals. “Skeptic” is one of my top 5 favorite tracks from them. As SomeWhere Else keeps working on tracks, I see them better developing their sound and more clearly defining this hip-hop/rock sound they bring.

Shout out to Jono the guitarist for sending me this.

Hidden Gem: Dave Patten & Meek Mill

January 23rd, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video, Pop |

First Dave Patten sent me “How Good” (video above) and I thought it was dope, but I wanted to hear at least one more before I can declare these guys being hidden gem’s and having real potential to become stars. Then he sent me “Believe Me” and I became a believer (sorry for cheesy pun), now I’m a huge fan.

If Dave Patten and Meek Mill continue working together, I only see their exposure growing and becoming even more mainstream. Follow Dave Patten and Meek Mill on twitter to find out what’s next for the alternative/hip-hop duo.

The Good Husbands – Imma Be Me

January 19th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video, Pop |

I got a iTunes smart playlist of songs I added the last month that I rated above 3 stars (yes I rate my music) and call this the “blog about playlist”. “Ima Do Me” by The Good Husbands just dropped out of my list, so that means it’s time I finally post it.

“Ima Do Me” has a nice chill beat, solid rapping and a great hook with dope female vocals in this Washington State hip-hop band. However The Good Husbands are different in that they are working on different things to see what works for them. Looking forward to more dope hits from the group.

Shout out to GMAD for discovering this over a month ago.

The Wild – Phoenix

December 29th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

Similar to “Revolution”, once again The Wild demonstrate their talent with their newest track, “Phoenix”. I have always had a huge liking towards hip-hop bands from The Roots to today with The Wild and many others. Keep an eye out for the New Zealand hip-hop band.

Here’s a little something from The Wild:
As any band or artist will say we hope to bring something new to music and the industry from unique instrumentation to vivid lyrics. We just hope to bring a certain quality to everything we do and make a sound that we’re proud of.

GoldenWest – Black.Gold

December 22nd, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Rock |

GoldenWest, a band I still have mixed feelings over even though they got a good alternative hip-hop/rock thing going on that I always love. But still on the fence and I think “Black.Gold” should give you a more positive impression of them.

Vonnegutt – Going Home

December 16th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop |

Vonnegutt recently released “Going Home”. It’s got a nice alternative hip-hop feel with some pop/rock elements. A chill track from the Georgia-based alternative hip-hop band.

The Wild – Full Circle

December 12th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap |

Shouts to P&P for first discovering this New Zealand alternative hip-hop band. The Wild are a group to watch out for in 2011 and beyond and this track further supports that statement.

The song below, “Full Circle”, samples Pictureplane’s “Cyclical Cyclical” and has more of an indie sound than their last track, “Revolution“.

White House Band – Grown-Ups

December 10th, 2010 by | Alternative/Indie, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

Brooklyn-based rock/hip-hop band White House Band recently released a brand new single, “Grown Ups”. It’s off their forthcoming “Stimulus Package” EP, slated for a release this fall.

Here’s a little write-up from White House Band:

David E Beats, lead of the White House Band sums the song as “Epic”. With content driven lyrics, accompanied with immaculate production, this song is sure to resonate well with their fans and takes them on a real musical journey. Meanwhile, the White House Band are currently finishing the last leg of their “Stimulus Package” Tour with 3 mores performances on December 9th at Southpaw, December 14th at Arlene’s Grocery and Crash Mansion.
