Thank You Thursday #2 – Thanksgiving Edition

November 28th, 2013 by | Alternative/Indie, Electronic Dance Music, House, Music Video, New Wave, Pop, Rock |

It’s Thanksgiving (or close to it… hey we all got things to do!) and it wouldn’t be right to not give a quick THANK YOU to some dope ass artists that have done some dope ass shit this year.  To keep it nice and concise I’m just gonna touch on one dope thing they did that was original and/or creative and/or unique and/or interesting.  If you don’t know what this is or why I do it please go here for a quick explanation.

Noir x Lomez x Atnarko – Lost Again (Feat. Symbol)

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Is pretty much all I can say. This shit is so damn sexy and cool and right it kinda hurts.  Production, Melody, Composition, bass chord progression, lyrics, etc. Not to mention it has that new wave vibe to it that I have always absolutely love.  One of the best parts of the song is the very tasteful bridge that comes in and introduces a whole new section of the song and it kinda almost takes off (if that makes any sense) at 2:55. Pretty cool that Pete Tong made this an Essential New Tune also. Thankful to have worked with Symbol in the past. Great shit has been made here.

Walking Shapes – Keep

The whole video is ridiculously well shot and the song is amazingly well written.  The first thing (along with many) that struck me as impressive was the whole Indie aesthetic of the video to go with the indie-rock song. Nate HoHo (lead singer/front man in the video) had a stellar performance coupled in with the tasteful nudity that was 100% well placed all made sense.  Great pay off at the end too. Dude is a visionary. Much respect, THANK YOU! slightly NSFW

Pre10d *Full Album*

16 minutes for a whole album? Yes, I could take a few lessons in this. Thank you for showing me that a short and concise album can be done and effective. Interesting beats, direct (and indirect) lyrics at times that actually are saying a lot (and nothing) all at the same time. Got a dope track with him and LAZERlibby coming out in 2014. THANK YOU!

Carolyn Malachi – Finally
Love this lyrics video & song. Love the over the top dramatic facial features of every word. Love her whole brand packaging.  THANK YOU!

Lazerbitch – Bass Goes Boom [Feat. Symbol]
Music don’t always gotta be so cereal, right?! Great Beat, Great Rhymes, Great Hook. But the video… very very well done with very minimal resources. The strip club shots were all pro looking. NSFW?! maybe. 100% dope though. THANK YOU!

“Two of the most powerful words in the English language for bringing about change, Daren, are “thank you.” Especially when offered before the change even occurs and everything still looks pretty much like it did yesterday. ”

Curren$y – She Don’t Want a Man (Video)

June 23rd, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

Curren$y just dropped the video for “She Don’t Want a Man” off his upcoming album Weekend at Burnie’s. I think the lesson to be gained from the video is that the way to understand women is to get super high, keep it chill, and they’ll leave their significant others to have sex with you. It’s kind of like a beer commercial but with weed. Enjoy, and roll one up for the album drop next Tuesday.

Hi-Rez – Gettin’ Started (Video)

June 14th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

Young rapper Hi-Rez out of South Florida is seriously on his grind, dropping some visuals to “Gettin’ Started” off his Early Release mixtape. The track, produced by E.Dan of renowned production duo ID Labs, is a serious anthem and goes hard, even though the kid is from the tropical paradise of South Florida. Hi-Rez has serious lyricism, a unique style, and a sick video that you can watch below:

Luke Christopher – Rooftops ft. Asher Roth (Video)

June 2nd, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

A couple weeks ago, Luke Christopher made a serious move by dropping the single “Rooftops” with Asher Roth. The track is chill and both dudes spit really hot verses. I’d seriously watch out for Luke Christopher. He’s only 18 and doesn’t even have a mixtape, yet he’s already spitting with some serious dudes. Check out the video after the jump:

Hi-Rez – No Place Like Home (Video)

June 1st, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

South Florida rapper, Hi-Rez made a deal that when his last video hit 50,000 views, he would drop another one. He said on Twitter that he thought it would take a month or maybe more, but he accomplished the goal in a little over a week. Those are some major stats for this up-and-comer from South Florida. With the hype building, Hi-Rez went ahead and released his latest video for “No Place Like Home.” Check it out after the jump.

Rapsody – Extra Extra (ft. Mac Miller) (Video)

May 25th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Music Video |

A lot of people are unfamiliar with Rapsody, one of the chillest female MCs in the game. She’s been around a while, working mainly with legendary producer 9th Wonder. However, her latest track “Extra Extra,” off her upcoming Thank H.E.R Now mixtape, with Mac Miller straight up kills it. The track is super chill, produced by Khrysis, and both MCs rip it up. With a lot of the new school of rappers (aka Tyler and Lil B) rejecting what came before them, it’s great to see someone like Mac enthusiastic about his musical predecessors, and adds his unique style to this old school sounding track. These two can spit. Check out the video after the jump

The Main Squeeze – Mixed Up (Video)

May 22nd, 2011 by | Chill/Jam/Reggae, Music Video |

Today, Indiana funkateers, The Main Squeeze, dropped their first official video, providing the visuals to their track “Mixed Up” off their debut album First Drops. Not only is the song funktastic, but it makes me really want to see them in concert. Check out the video after the jump:
