Review: Weapons of Audio, Das Tapes at Hotel Cafe

December 7th, 2011 by | Concert/Festival Review |

This was one of those shows where the sound engineer was a big reason why it became a bust. However it was Weapons of Audio‘s last show in LA before they returned home to Atlanta and I discovered another dynamic brother duo that night in Das Tapes. Two sets of brothers performed in Hotel Cafe in Hollywood on November 27, and even though they didn’t sound too great because of the venue’s sound person, they still proved why they are two legit bands to keep an eye on.

First Weapons of Audio performed and rocked the stage even though Jeremy on guitar sometimes couldn’t be heard with his guitar and only his vocals. Their smash hit, “Night Light” got a little ruined because of the sound engineer but it’s still my favorite song. However keep an eye out for a new song I just heard from the band called “Soak Up The Sun”, its a song that will instantly get in the top 10 on Hypem and hipsters and indie/alternative rock/pop fans will rejoice as the synthesized soul duo WOA continually shows they can expand their sound and further make themselves stand out from the rest. Here’s my favorite song, “Night Light”.

Lastly I heard almost all of Das Tapes set. The vocals didn’t sound the best live and I believe this is a band that needs to put on a spectacular show like Empire of the Sun or Ghostland Observatory to mask their synthesized vocals and all the other various noises they make. This is a brother duo that mixes electronic music with various other banging elements. If you see them perform live, you will be intrigued and possibly seek out their music to download. They are fairly new to the scene, so with time, these guys will only get better and will be headlining shows across the country in 2-3 years. Here’s my favorite from Das Tapes, “Black Ferrari”, and another hit I love, “Dynomite”.

Black Crystal Wolf Kids, Weapons of Audio and Mind the Gap at The Bootleg Theatre

November 8th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

I know I’m a bit late on this review but on Halloween night, I was blessed to see three very talented music groups perform. It all went down at the Bootleg Theatre in Silver Lake. I saw the Black Crystal Wolf Kids, Weapons of Audio, and Mind the Gap kill it on stage. Everyone was in their costumes and it was a very great vibe f0r an awesome concert.

Black Crystal Wolf Kids are an indie rock cover band who impersonate many widely popular alternative rock groups with style. This group has a solid following and loves getting very involved with their crowds at their shows. They just love to enjoy themselves and joke around on stage which makes them even more legit. This show featured songs by the likes of Foster the People, MGMT and many others. My favorite was their cover of Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks”. They sounded so much like the real band. All I have is the live version for now but it is still very enjoyable. Check it out below.

Next up was Weapons of Audio, this was my third time seeing them live and though their drummer Grey couldn’t make it to this show, they still do an amazing job on stage. My favorite track of theirs live is one that has been at the top of my list for a while. Check out the future radio hit “Night Light” below.

Finally to cap off a great night of music came a very talented an unique band called Mind The Gap. The are an indie pop-rock band whose group members are a Korean, a Sri Lankan, a Mexican, and a Jew from Cleveland. Their stage presence was great an they even dressed up in costumes that matched their stereotypes and their response to it was “we are who we are”. Check out my favorite track of theirs below called “Once You Leave”. Enjoy!

Jhameel, Weapons of Audio, and Jesse Palter and the Alter Ego at The Viper Room

October 25th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Concert/Festival Review, Hip-Hop/Rap, Rock |

Last Wednesday, The Viper Room featured 3 awesome music up-and-comers. The night started with Jhameel, an indie-rock group with a very unique sound.

Second came my boys Weapons of Audio. This was only their second full show in LA but once again they killed it and showed how talented they truly are. Their classic rock mixed with hip-hop sound is exactly the type of feel good music that any music fan loves to hear.

Finally, to end the night came Jesse Palter and the Alter Ego. Jesse is a very talented female singer who will certainly make it big soon.

I was extremely grateful to see these three acts kill it on stage and look forward to more shows by them in the near future. Enjoy my three favorite tracks by these groups.

THE BEACH PARTY IS TODAY! Call Zach at (310) 738-0104 for questions.

Not only is Weapons of Audio doing their first-ever acoustic performance and jamming all through the night, Grassroots California is vending for the event, and Before the Bigs & SuperGoodMusic are bringing the good vibes for the first ever Bonfire at the Beach party and Free Acoustic Session from Weapons of Audio!

Live music, food & drinks, awesome people sitting around the bonfire at Dockweiler Beach, which by the way is one of the only beaches in Southern California that legally allows bonfires!

Weapons of Audio will be jamming out all night from 6-10 and encourage people to bring instruments to jam out with them! I’m bringing some djembe African drums, food & drinks plus so you know I’m ready to jam!

Did I mention the whole thing is FREE for you to attend but we do ask that you if can bring some items and let us know on the facebook event page that would be amazing! Some items we are looking for (not including food & drinks) include a portable grill to cook with and some firewood. Feel free to bring food and/or drinks but we will have most of that provided (except alcohol). Also it might get kind of cold so dress warmly but wear some sandals because sand in the kicks is worse than a bag of dicks.

By the way, here’s another reason to attend the party; listen and download WOA’s newest single, “Night Light”, a party anthem song that will get you off your feet and wondering why mainstream radio hasn’t put this on air yet.

Show Review: Reazon, Weapons of Audio and Sims/Lazerbeak at Central SAPC

October 3rd, 2011 by | Before Bigs Exclusive, Concert/Festival Review, Reviews |

Last Saturday we attended and were a part of the excitement that occurred at The Central Social Aid & Pleasure Club in Santa Monica. The show featured hip-hop, electronic, rock and some synthesized soul for an exciting night that featured five different artists, including three members of Minneosta music collective, Doomtree.

The opening act was Reazon, a rapper/songwriter/producer/sound designer  from Minnesota who once worked with Foster The People. He performed for about 15 minutes to get things started and did mostly freestyles that not only showed his solid rap flow but his production skills.

We have been following Weapons of Audio for a while now and I was extremely grateful to be a part of their very first show in Southern California when they performed at the Central Social Aid & Pleasure Club in Santa Monica on Saturday September 24th. They were amazing and their unique style of genre blending classic rock and hip-hop truly shows their high level of talent. My two favorite tracks they performed were“Night Light”,  and “If You Want Me”.

Next came Doomtree member, Cecil Otter, who I admit we didn’t get to see much of as we were putting away our camera equipment after getting the opportunity to film Weapons of Audio‘s first LA show (video coming later this month!). However from the 5 minutes I did see of him, I felt he was very interesting and has something about him which makes him standout. Here’s my favorite Cecil Otter song, “1999”
Cecil Otter of Doomtree – 1999

Lastly I saw Lazerbeak & Sims, two of my favorite members of Doomtree who dropped bombs and dropped rhymes throughout their set. First Lazerbeak came on stated he was going to drop some bombs which he did for about 10 minutes and the whole crowd was dancing, shaking and moving to his production.

Then Sims came out and rapped his ass off, spit some jokes in between songs and overall made it real enjoyable understanding the scene at Central SAPC, making references to the hipsters there and the Cali culture. Overall the energy was buzzing throughout the show and I highly recommend checking out  I enjoy almost all of their music so here’s my three favorites I heard live from Sims and produced by Lazerbeak.

If you missed Weapons of Audio performance at this show or you didn’t but want to hear more of their “Synthesized Soul”, then be sure to check out their upcoming shows in the month of October, especially the Bonfire Acoustic Session at Dockweiler State Beach. We are sponsoring that event and we would love your support. By the way, it will be Weapons of Audio’s first ever acoustic performance so you won’t want to miss it plus it’s a party on the beach! presents: Best You Never Heard 4 – Summer Dreamin’

September 27th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Before Bigs Exclusive, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Daily Mix, Dance, Disco, Dubstep, Electro, Electropop, Hip-Hop/Rap, House, Mashup, Pop, R&B, Rock |

We are proud to present “Best You Never Heard 4: Summer Dreamin'”, which features 22 tracks from the best up-and-coming artists that many of you might not have heard of. After three successful Best You Never Heard mixtape’s, we decided to continue displaying versatility in the type of songs selected for this mixtape series, with a little bit of everything to fill your ears.

Some guidelines we stuck by included choosing artists that, as of today, have less than 10,000 fans on facebook or twitter. We are proud to say many of the songs below cannot be defined by a single genre. The songs below we believe stand out from the other up-and-coming artists out there and display a unique sound that shows their true potential.

Below is the 22-track playlist to listen to and links to download Best You Never Heard 4.

Weapons of Audio – Night Light *must-download party anthem!

September 20th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Rock |

When Weapons of Audio exposed me to “Night Light” – their unreleased cut co-produced by Grammy award winner Graham Marsh – I knew this was a future radio hit. Its a certifiable bar anthem in my opinion with a hook that boasts “lets hit the bar, have a toast and drink away our sorrow…”   Listen and download Weapons of Audio latest banger, “Night Light”.

Don’t forget to get tickets for their first LA show this Saturday at Central SAPC. We are going to be there raging with the hip-hop/rock/soul duo from Atlanta and got a surprise we are letting people know about after Weapons of Audio finishes their first performance in LA. Buy tickets here!!!

That’s not all, we got an exclusive behind the scenes video coming out of Weapons of Audio’s first photo-shoot in LA which the above picture is from. Also watch out for an exclusive interview and special event with Weapons of Audio coming out in the future from us on Before the Bigs.

Hidden Gem: Weapons of Audio *retro-futuristic

June 15th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Hidden Gem, Pop |

I discovered Weapons of Audio through a fellow blogger talking their shit up on facebook. I took a chance, downloaded one song from them, loved it and kept looking for more tracks to listen to.

Weapons of Audio, which is a great name for a band that rocks out, are an alternative pop group from Atlanta that remind me of Prince and for a more current comparison, Bad Rabbits. Here’s my three favorites from Weapons of Audio.

For more on Weapons of Audio follow them on facebook and twitter.
