Covers *Cris Cab, Neon Hitch, PJ Simas, Tokyo Police Club, Weezer

September 19th, 2011 by | Alternative/Indie, Chill/Jam/Reggae, Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Rock |

Five new covers from artists ranging from Reggae to rock and much of what’s in between.

First we go with Cris Cab‘s reggae/jam cover to Foster The People‘s “Pumped Up Kicks”. I like how the chill vibes and overall Cris Cab gives it a new sound which is refreshing since the only thing I hear with “Pumped Up Kicks” these days is remixes and the song being played all over the radio. Watch the music video here.

Cris Cab – Pumped Up Kicks

I got mixed reactions when I played this to the Weapons of Audio fam recently. However it’s kind of catchy, the ginger is interesting but overall some of you might be passing on this shit. However, Neon Hitch‘s vocals are all over the place, slows the song up and takes out the dubstep. The song is more minimalistic than the original, the lyrics sound even more dumb and after writing a few sentences on this cover, I may be less a fan. Watch the music video for the cover, it makes it better.

Neon Hitch – Gucci Gucci

PJ Simas is killing it among the white boy acoustic guitar rappers. If you can’t think of any others in that category, trust me when I say PJ Simas is talented and might be a better producer than performer. However he puts an acoustic chilled out version of Mac Miller‘s “Frick Park Market” which is real nice to relax to.

PJ Simas – Frick Park Market

I’m a fan of Tokyo Police Club so when I saw this LCD Soundsystem cover they did, I immediately became a fan. It picks up real nicely and since LCD isn’t releasing new music, this is refreshing. Really liking the alternative & punk vibe.

Tokyo Police Club – All My Friends

Lastly comes a cover by one of my all-time favorite rock bands, Weezer. They cover The Band‘s “The Weight”, one of the best classic rock songs of all-time. “The Weight” is also one of those songs that seems really easy to sing when your drunk but it’s not, trust me, I have tried to sing the lyrics to this song drunk but stumbled in so many ways.

Hidden Gem: KillaGraham *dubstep remixes

March 8th, 2011 by | Dubstep, Hidden Gem, Remix |

I was almost about to write BANGER in the post title but that would have made me feel like I had just paid for sex. Not because KillaGraham’s music is dope but I hate using that word to describe good music. However if that word is in your dictionary to describe a really good song, then it would be appropriate for DJ KillaGraham’s remixes.

KillaGraham’s remixes are dope and here’s two songs he throws some awesome dubstep into. Shout out to Vacay Waves.
First KillaGraham throws dubstep onto a “Cudi Zone”. It’s hard to remix Kid Cudi and make it sound bad but their are very few dubstep remixes to Cudi I pay attention to and this is one of those few dope ones. Download

Next KillaGraham throws dubstep onto one of the easiest Weezer songs to play in Rockband, “Say It Ain’t So”. I will never forgot I did guitar and vocals at the same time to this song. It was on easy mode but still, that was one of my finer moments in multi-tasking in video games. Download

Hidden Gem: White Noise *rising 2-song mashup DJ

February 23rd, 2011 by | Hidden Gem, Mashup |

White Noise is a mashup DJ from Penn State University who is really good at mixing two songs from different genres but making it sound cohesive and overall fairly catchy. By the way when I googled “white noise mashup” this was one of the first images I got besides cover art from some of White Noise’s mashup projects. Anybody still drinking four lokos?

Anyways, here’s three of my recent favorites I have heard from White Noise, however I’m pretty sure two of them came out last year or earlier.

Get ‘Em High Like Planes (Kanye West vs. M.I.A.)

Going Back to Beverly Hills (Notorious B.I.G. vs. Weezer vs. Beverly Hills Cop Theme)

Jon Kilmer Studios bangs out new SoLo & Chuck Revere

February 9th, 2011 by | Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop |

Jon Kilmer hit me up with two songs that came from his studios and I’m assuming his production. We usually don’t highlight the people behind the artists, but in terms of video production, music production and overall artist management, Jon Kilmer is somebody you should know about.

Below is two of the latest tracks out of Jon Kilmer Studios. First is a new single from SoLo called “P.A.R.T.Y” featuring Jerry Robinson. This is a nice upbeat, feel good, party track.
SoLo – P.A.R.T.Y (feat. Jerry Robinson)
Next Jon Kilmer introduced me to Quinnipiac University student Chuck Revere whose song “Wasted” has a dope Weezer sample and has solid party lyrical flow from Chuck Revere. Play this at your party or pre-game session, fresh guaranteed!

Introducing Be Like Pablo *the next Weezer

January 13th, 2011 by | Music Video, Pop, Rock |

I forgot how I stumbled on Be Like Pablo but while listening to their single “Julianne” I kept thinking, this sounds like a younger Weezer, which is funny because on the Scottish band’s facebook, one of their influences is old Weezer.

Hopefully I’m not the only one who hopes the band came up with the name from their appreciation for Pablo Sanchez from the Backyard Sports series. Either way, Be Like Pablo is a young up-and-coming rock/pop band that you should all know about.

Mashup of the Day – “Yeah In The Sun”

September 22nd, 2010 by | Mashup |

For today’s daily masher I bring you a mashup between Usher and Weezer. It’s uses Weezer’s “Island In The Sun” instrumentals and some chorus and Ushers “Yeah” vocals. It’s a bonus song off Jay-Zeezer’s The Black & Blue Album, which are mashups between Jay-Z and Weezer.

Why am I bringing you this track today. Because both Weezer and Usher released albums this year. Weezer released Hurley in September 2010 and Usher released Raymond v. Raymond in March and Versus in August. They each took almost a year long haitus from making music and both are having comeback years in genre’s they have thrived in.

At the bottom, download the whole album from Jay-Zeezer which includes two other great favorites “Surf Wax Off Your Shoulder” and “My 1st Song’s Name Is Jonas”.

Listen and download “Yeah In The Sun”.

Mashup Monday: Mr. Rogers Productions x Weezer

September 13th, 2010 by | Mashup, Mashup Monday, Remix |
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_8GNaEVCPU?fs=1]

As you can see in the video above, this isn’t a mashup between Mr. Rogers Productions and Weezer. Weezer does a cover/mashup with MGMT’s “Kids” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”. It’s an awesome cover/mashup and I love that Weezer performs this song at almost every live concert which I have featured video of them doing above.

Download: Weezer – Kids x Poker Face

The other mashup today is by Mr. Rogers Production, who recently produced “Testify To The Kids” a mashup between MGMT’s “Kids” and Kanye West’s “Testify”. I like this mashup because it’s not just one song’s instrumental’s over the other songs vocals but “Kids” instrumentals are mixed around the lyrics of “Testify”.
